    Tecmo Developing GC fighting games.

As reported on IGNinsider yesterday, GameCube fans worrying that Nintendo's "alternative" controller shape and button configuration may have deterred fighting game developers from creating brawlers for the console can now rest easy. After Capcom, Sega and Namco, GameCube has now gained its fourth big fighting game developer: Tecmo. In its quarterly earnings report, Tecmo today announced that it's not only planning to support Nintendo GameCube, the Japanese developer has already purchased development hardware and is underway with at least one title. According to Tecmo, the company will concentrate on delivering fighting games for the console. Though not identified by name, it's more than likely that GameCube will receive an installment in Tecmo's long-running Dead or Alive franchise. The first GameCube Tecmo game is scheduled for March 2002."

De DOA licencies zijn misschien helemaal niet zo exclusief zoals iedereen denkt, misschien dat deze game ook op de GC verschijnt? Daarnaast staat op de Xbox covers geen "Only for Xbox sticker" zoals bv bij Halo.

    Softimage 3D

Nintendo Gamecube has its own set of Graphical Features to compensate for Xbox's Vertex and Pixel Shaders. Many xbox hardware buffs have used this argument to prove the xbox has more graphical prowess than Gamecube as fact. The new features were produced in a new Softimage 3D system developing tool package which will be distributed to developers currently working on Gamecube projects.

"The GameCube-centric tools offer a specialized version of the Softimage 3D system, with features for multiple UV texturing, interactive normal editing, polygon hide and unhide, enhanced vertex color shading, dopesheet control for shader and custom fcurve, and more. "

Bonuses of the SD card over built in hard drives.

The SD cards are not just for save functions but act as a mini hard-drive. Nintendo represenatives state that the SD cards will double as the possibilities of the rewritable 64 DD. So features like making levels in F-Zero or downloading new Bots and levels for PD0 are very feesible indeed. The one thing it doesnt do is stream data to make faster loading times but as you can see Gamecube doesnt need that feature. And with the constant growth of the SD cards and continued drop in price, pretty soon late 2002 early 2003 1gig cards will be quite affordable. Within the next 3 years 4 gigabyte cards will be avaible for market also.

So storage size and space is not a problem for you can buy as many SD cards as you like instead of being limited to as certain hardrive amount the entire consoles life span. The BEST feature of the SD card is its portability. So when you create a level or your custom animal forest world on the SD card you can easily transfer the information to ANY gamecube over your friends house or otherwise. The hardrives will not be transferrable at all from console to console. Many people over look the benefits of the portable hardrive like SD cards. Still not to mention its universal uses as a viable and portable MP3 medium.

    Xbox hoge prijzen bundels.

    bron: http://www.gamestop.com/default.asp?cookie_test=1§=1160

Dead or Alive 3 / Tecmo
    4x4 Evolution 2 / Gathering of Developers
The Simpsons Road Rage / Electronic Arts
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind / Bethesda Softworks
    Project Gotham Racing / Microsoft
    Fuzion Frenzy / Microsoft
    NFL Fever 2002 / Microsoft
    Circus Maximus / Kodiak Interactive
Azurik: Rise of Perathia / Microsoft
    Shrek / TDK Mediactive
    Nightcaster / Microsoft
NBA Inside Drive 2002 / Microsoft
    Enclave / Conspiracy Games
    Malice / Sierra

    ***E3 Awards***

Best of Show -- Nintendo GameCube; Runner-up -- Star Wars Galaxies (PC)
Best Console Hardware -- Nintendo GameCube; Runner-up -- Microsoft Xbox
Best Action Game -- Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II; Runner-up -- Medal of Honor Allied Assualt (PC)
Best Fighting Game -- Super Smash Bros. Melee; Runner-up -- Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium
Best Puzzle/Trivia/Parlor Game -- Pikmin; Runner-up -- Chu Chu Rocket (GBA)

"In quantity, Nintendo as a publisher walked away with the most awards. Fans of GameCube know that Nintendo has barely revealed its forthcoming GameCube lineup."

This is true. EAD is said to be working on 20 titles and we only know of Pikim, Luigis Mansion, Mario, and Zelda.

    http://cube.ign.com/news/35941.html

    ***Developer Quotes***

    Electronic Arts
"Coming out of E3, yes, we were more excited about Gamecube and we’re working diligently to try to get more products ready for that platform to release this fiscal year," said the company's president Larry Probst to analysts. "What we’ve announced is that we have 10 products in development on both of those platforms, and we haven’t changed that. As we get a sense of how those are doing we’ll adjust how many on each, but we’ve committed to doing 10 on each."

"The Nintendo GameCube can push more polygons around with higher-resolution textures than PS2,"

NP: Rob, from a developer's angle, what specifically would you say are the more positive aspects of making a game for Nintendo GameCube?
RM: At the top level, I think Nintendo achieved their goal of making a machine that's easy to program for. The time to port even a game from a different platform like the PS2 is exceedingly fast and easy. Documentation is really good, and support from Nintendo is really good. It's been very easy to get Madden up and running very quickly.
In more detail, the fact that the system will take any type of data makes it easy to program for. The fact that it has predictable performance is good. That's very important. One of the key things about Nintendo GameCube is that the memory vendor they chose was MoSys. What that gives you is low latency memory. Very predictable latency bandwidth.
So when you're programming you can say to yourself, "Okay, I added a certain number of players, and it's going to cost me this much and I can count on that."
NP: So you're never hit with any big surprises.
RM: That's right. There's not a clip anywhere in the performance. It's very predictable, which is good. It gives you an idea about how far you can go with your game. The dev systems are nice. You actually have two different models available from two different vendors, which is nice. So there's competition.

    Sega
"Four words: don't write off Nintendo. A lot of companies have, but Nintendo's got a five billion dollar war chest and a lot of great, original franchises."

    Yugi Naka
Famitsu: What are your impressions of GameCube?
Yuji Naka [Sonic Team]: Really easy to program. PSO was completed in about a month. This proves how easy it is to work with
    Famitsu: Wow!
IGNcube: What would you say your favorite part of developing for GameCube is?
Naka-san: I think its stability as a system. It's very stable. Anything that's theoretically possible, we can execute it and it works
"if you're a fan of Sonic Team, I recommend that you buy a GameCube."

    Amusment Vision
IGNcube: What are your favorite strengths of the GameCube hardware?
Nagoshi-san: Firstly, it has good balance as a whole. Next, the CPU because it's fast. [Then] the texture memory, polygon power

Famitsu: Are you going to be developing primarily on GameCube from now on?
Toshiro Nagoshi [Amusement Vision]: Yes, I am. I think it's natural to think of GameCube as our main platform, having worked with it, it gives us an advantage. We've been thinking of many things other than these

Famitsu: Having worked on the GameCube hardware for the past few months, what are your impressions of it?
Nagoshi: I hoped that the hardware would reflect the same technological leap as from the Super Famicom to the Nintendo 64. Based on our early development, the GameCube passes that test with flying colors.

Famitsu: So will you focus on original titles for GameCube after Monkey Ball and Virtua Striker 3?
Nagoshi: Yes, our development is taking a step in that direction. Thinking about the future, it wouldn't do us any good to continue focusing on the same areas. When you think about games that really stand out lately, they're network titles. For that reason, I'm interested in working on a new online console title. Ideally, we'd like to announce our full plans at E3 next year.
"Our entire staff fell in love with the GameCube when we first received development kits, and I think players will too. Even if Nintendo is perceived as catering to a younger audience, GameCube will win over players of all ages" - Toshihiro Nagoshi
IGNcube: Will we see Planet Harriers on GameCube?
Nagoshi-san: Keep on hoping [JS: cross your fingers everybody ] Amusment Vision loves them some GCN huh.

    Namco
"We are very interested in Nintendo's GameCube as one of our target machines because it will have a strong influence in changing the current user groups"

    Konami
"Everyone has been impressed with Nintendo. It has been perhaps their greatest ever show. Previously Nintendo has made announcements and then disappointed, but at E3 people saw the Cube, saw playable demos and were immediately convinced"

Kojima"Some websites have articles saying that I have said that 'Nintendo GameCube is for kids and immature people,'" commented Kojima. "I have never made a reply of that nuance. Many times when I do an interview for a magazine, what I mean is not always re-created in the article with my intentions, but instead are misinterpreted. I personally have high hopes for the GameCube. I would like to develop a game for GameCube."

    Squaresoft
"That certainly is a possibility. In fact, executives at Square are very enthusiastic about Nintendo."

    Raven Software:
-- What impressed you the most at E3? --
Nintendo's showing for the GameCube. Squadron Leader from Lucas Arts is simply the best looking flight game I have ever seen. It just sold a GameCube right here
-- Xbox. Playstation 2. GameCube. Which console stole the show? --
GameCube. No question. PSX2 had some decent stuff too, the XBox was a little disappointing I thought

    Volition
-- What impressed you the most at E3? --
GameCube. The games that were being shown were impressive and polished. It looked almost like they were ready to go to market now instead of later this year. Rogue Leader was probably the coolest looking game I saw at the show

    Z-Axis:
-- Xbox. Playstation 2. GameCube. Which console stole the show? --
Gamecube all the way. Talk about an impressive, SOLID showing. The more I see of it, the more impressed I am. We just got our game up and running on the dev station for it, and it was as easy if not easier to do than the xbox, and MUCH easier by far than the ps2

    ID software
"The $199 price tag for the GameCube, coupled with the power of Nintendo's brands makes me believe they'll end up the favorite in the long run"

    Gearbox Software
-- What impressed you the most at E3? --
The Game Cube is great. A lot of us are considering doing a Game Cube title because of all the right decisions Nintendo has made...

    Epic Games: Unreal
-- What impressed you the most at E3? --
Two things ... Medal of Honor and GameCube.
-- Xbox. Playstation 2. GameCube. Which console stole the show? --
GameCube all the way. Some of the PS2 stuff looked cool (Final Fantasy X and Dark Alliance especially), but the GameCube games are solid, polished and run smoothly. I didn't look at a single GameCube game without wanting to play it

Note: 2nd parties zijn laatste omdat hun meningen nogal partijdig zijn. Als je er geinteresseerd in bent dan kan ze lezen iig.
    Silicon Knights
"Those people who were dominating through technology because they could always maintain 60 frames per second or they could do more polygons than someone else, those people are going to start to fade into the background and the people who are really going to come to the forefront are the people who can create the best stories and create the best gameplay ideas. I think that's very important."
"The people who have made the hardware, they are awesome! They really know what they are doing. It is by the far the best hardware out there."
"I think the GAMECUBE in general is really going to change the industry ,,, What I think is going to happen, especially with third parties, is that they're going to find that bringing the graphics and the technology up to speed very quickly is going to be easy. So the change that's going to occur is that is that content and the ability to create content are truly going to come to the forefront for the first time.
"Previous to being second party, we were very strong in content, artwork, some technologies. Now that we're in the fold with Nintendo, our ability to create gameplay has gone through the roof."

    Factor 5
NintendoWeb: What about LucasArts’ stance on not porting games from one console to another? Will that hold true for Rogue Squadron II?
Brett Tosti: [pause] It’s… well right now, everything is certainly an exclusive. We are doing so many things that are specific to GameCube. There are certain things in the whole interface in the way the button configurations work with the game that we can only do with GameCube. So, yeah, right now, it’s exclusive for GameCube.
NW: What are your thoughts on Nintendo’s proprietary mini-DVD format?
BT: We don’t actually have them right now. I think they are great. The storage capacity is more than we need for Rogue Leader. They are 1.5 Gigs, and that’s tons! Yeah, we’re not having any problems with space. Right now what we are using is a G-Box, which emulates the sync times for those little mini-discs. From what I saw at Nintendo’s [pre-E3] presentation, Miyamoto loaded up Luigi’s Mansion in a snap. There are some definite things you can do to optimize the load times.

    NCL
"Claude (Wave Race:Blue Storm): No, no - what you see is what you get. It's all in real-time. Nintendo put in our hands a gem. The GameCube is like a diamond - it's so pure, streamlined, vicious and fantastic. It's a dream for an engineer. It's unbelievable."

    ***Industry, Experts, and Interesting News***

    Okada (Atlus)
Although Atlus did not have any software displayed at Spaceworld 2001, Atlus R&D director Mr. Okada attended the show to see some of the software other developers were working on. Okada confirms the system is very easy to develop for, and he is currently working on a secret project which can not be announced at this time. The title is hinted to be an RPG, but he could not divulge further details

    Tatsuya (Capcom)
"One of the Capcom directors was also spotted during the exhibition. Mr. Tatsuya commented how easy and powerful the system was. When asked about Resident Evil Zero, Tatsuya said the game is being worked on for the GameCube, but Capcom was not confirming a release date or further details at this point in time. Tatsuya did add, by saying the game looked incredible, and it will be worth the wait."

    Yoichiro (EA Square)
EA Square executive Mr. Yoichiro had nothing new to mention of Electronic Arts of Japan's GameCube support. Mr. Yoichiro did state he was very impressed with the Spaceworld 2001 line up, and again confirmed many of the developers were very enthusiastic over working on the system.

    Taniguchi (From Software)
From Software R&D producer, and the man heading up the GameCube RPG RUNE, mentions he would like to develop titles for some of the older GameCube consumers. Taniguchi feels the system is great...

    Take Two Still Gamecube Exclusive
"Today in a conference call Take-Two reiterated that it is developing products for GameCube. The company has previously stated that it will bring Duke Nukem Forever to Nintendo's next-generation console sometime next year. The company has made no specific announcements about any of its other GameCube products"
[We gladly welcome any console exclusive PC ports they have to offer.]

    AM2 Development
"In Sega's most recent UK version of its Official Dreamcast Magazine, AM2 was listed among the 2 other known Sega GCN developers. Tendo Box also quotes the magazine as stating all 3 have been at work since last Fall!"
    http://planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=1624

    Sonys Revisions in PS2 Games
"Several media outlets are reporting that Sony has sent memos to developers concerning future game projects. Apparently, Sony has been feeling the heat of the graphical power of GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox and the company has now advised developers to put more development time into creating better graphics and less time in developing lengthy gameplay experiences. "

Nintendo GameCube Attracts Third Party Support
During a Space World Press Conference Nintendo admitted that the N64 had poor third party support. When the N64 was launched 5 years ago, looking at the financial risks involved in developing games on cartridges, many of our 3rd party companies said, "We'd have to be crazy to develop for Nintendo 64!" Today, with the playing field level financially, seeing Nintendo's incomparable exclusive titles and above all, a retail price point that's only two thirds of those competing machines, those same developers are now saying, "Develop for Nintendo? We'd be crazy not to!"
By choosing to drop cartridges in favor of Panasonic custom 3" mini-DVD's, Nintendo is able to offer publishers media that is pirate proof, quickly manufactured and with a competitive price. With GameCube publishers will make more profit per game sold than they did in the N64 days. third party companies such as: Capcom, Konami, Namco, EA and Sega have announced support for GameCube. Even Square has publicly announced their desire to make GameCube and Game Boy Advance games. Nintendo stated that there are more Third party companies developing games for GameCube than have been revealed.
"[Nintendo's] approach seems to have scored well with game developers and industry watchers. As an extremely influential analyst, Doherty has spoken with many industry executives and concludes that the momentum is in Nintendo's favor. Judging by overall developer confidence, there seems to be tremendous confidence in Gamecube right now," says Doherty. "I respect that."

    Merrill Lynch Investment Firm
"The investment firm Merrill Lynch has released an optimistic report on Nintendo suggesting the Gamecube is set to be a strong success
After Nintendo’s particularly strong E3 showing, Merrill Lynch has revised its views on Nintendo and has raised the company’s rating from Accumulate to Buy, now anticipating excellent sales or both the Gamecube and Game Boy Advance. On top of a strong E3 showing and a competitive price, the reason for this is also partly because Gamecube runs disk-based software, which should counteract the problems N64 had due to its cartridge format.

Analyst Takiko Mori predicts a steady supply of hardware and software will lead Nintendo to success. Mori predicts the company to ship 23 million Game Boy Advance units worldwide by the end of the business year, along with software at 55 million. Nintendo should ship five million GameCubes and 15 million games for the console by March 2002, Mori says.
According to Mori, "the willingness of U.S.-based game publishers including Electronic Arts, which had provided few games for the Nintendo 64 console, to create GameCube software will lift the chance for Nintendo's success."
"Nintendo's magic" was on display at this year's E3, says Spicer. Supported by strong profits ahead, it looks like gamers will be enjoying more of that magic in the years to come. "
