    FIFA 07 XBOX 360 Blog
    (Darren Hedges, Producer)

Welcome to the 2nd installment of the FIFA 07 Xbox 360 Producer Blogs:

As the Online and Rendering Producer of FIFA 07 it was my responsibility this year to bring you the best visuals and some most compelling on-line features we have ever had in FIFA.

What does that mean for all of you out there? I’ll break that down in the blog below but for FIFA 07 on the Xbox 360 you will be closer to the sport than you ever have been before in a football game.

    The Online experience

When we set out on the 07 journey our goal was clear for online.

“Make the online game play and feel like the offline game”

A lofty goal to be sure, but we at EAC and in the FIFA 07 Next Gen team know that the online experience is fast becoming the arena of choice for gamers.

We have strived all year to ensure that the lag and choppiness you may have felt in previous years is now eradicated and that the feeling of playing offline is replicated online. And I’m happy to say we have achieved that goal.

The multiplayer aspect has also received a shot in the arm with our new 4 vs. 4 online gameplay for the Xbox 360. So now you and 7 of your friends can play together across 2 consoles in a heated multiplayer battle for bragging rights.

Bringing the fan closer to the beautiful game

We all know that you live and breathe your clubs; we all on the FIFA team feel the same way and every day we check to see the latest news and results from across the globe.

The FIFA team is made of nationalities from all over the globe, from Japan and Australia, across Europe and the Middle East to the Americas. We all want that fix of our clubs talking points.

The FIFA 07 online experience is quite like no other you will have seen on any game or platform previously.

We have 4 distinct areas to keep the players fully informed with up to the minute news and events from around the globe.

    The EA SPORTS™ News Ticker

Bringing you the user news from 20 countries and 30 competitions from across the globe, everything from the Bolivian League to the Australian “A” league, is covered by up-to-the-minute scores, results and fixtures streamed into the in-game ticker.

In addition to that all the major and minor leagues and competitions across Europe, the English Premiership, Ligue 1 Orange, LFP Primera, Bundesliga 1, Serie A, are all covered with up-to-the-minute headline prose in each language.

    EA SPORTS™ Web Offer

Everyone wants to know more about their club, as if the ticker wasn’t enough. So we also have our Web Offer system.

In this system you can browse the latest news items from for your club or seek out news on one of the major tournaments.

For FIFA 07 our Web Offer system supports full club based news article updates from:

    The F.A. Premier League
    LFP Primera
    Ligue 1 Orange
    Bundesliga 1
    Serie A
    Mexican Primera
    USA Major League Soccer

And more general news stories from:

    The English F.A. Cup
    The English League Cup
    The U.E.F.A. Champions League
    The U.E.F.A. Cup
    Copa Liberatdores

Where also available from our providers these news stories are fully translated into French, German, Italian and Spanish.
EA SPORTS™ Up the minute Statistics

So as if that wasn’t enough the FIFA team also know you guys want and need your statistics up-to-the-minute and updated as they happen.

We track the following leagues with up to the minute league standings, goal scorers, discipline, fixtures and results:

    The F.A. Premier League
    LFP Primera
    Ligue 1 Orange
    Bundesliga 1
    Serie A
    Mexican Primera

    EA SPORTS™ Podcasts

So you like your news in an audible format we have that covered too. FIFA 07 brings you football podcasts from around Europe and the USA partnering with the top radio and podcast broadcasters in each territory to bring you podcasts on your Xbox 360 to keep you fully informed of the football world you live in.

    Your FIFA 07 online career

In addition to all of that we also have full online career statistical tracking and leaderboard’s from across the globe, weekly, monthly, all time results and specific to your gamer level.

    FIFA 07 Downloadable Content

    Squad Updates

In February 07 we will be offering the full update to our leagues to cover off all of the latest transfers from the January Transfer window.

    Arena Customization

We all want that little bit of bragging and customization when our friends come to visit. For FIFA 07 we have the ability to customize the pitch in our practice arena with the club logo of your choice.

    The Visuals

EA SPORTS™ and FIFA have consistently pushed the boundaries in the way its games look on the field. FIFA 07 for the XBOX 360 is no exception.

For FIFA 07 we went back to the drawing board and re-engineered everything from the ground up.

We have new player skeletons that include scalable height and 3 different body types for incredible player diversity. In FIFA 07 you will see the difference between Peter Crouch and Aaron Lennon or Carlos Tevez.

A brand new rendering engine that allows us to have real time self casting player and ball shadows with full player hair animation that moves and bounces realistically to emphasize motion and our cloth animation enables player shirts to fold and move realistically (including tucked and un-tucked shirts).

We also have dynamic dirt maps and sweat maps on all players, and full facial animation and this allows us to represent the blood sweat and tears that our heroes take into battle every weekend.

This in tandem with our new animation system (ANT) that enables variable player movement animations (i.e. Henry’s off and on the ball movement differs from that of Rooney). Variable cadence in the run animations based off the length of stride and length of legs give a realistic feel from Christiano Ronaldos’ quick stepping feet to Puyols sturdy stride.

We also have over 350 unique Star player heads and over a 1000 different generic heads.

Round this out with new physics and momentum based net physics, differing real time stadium environment lighting and you have the most realistic representation of the sport of football ever seen on any platform.

Well that’s about it from me for now. Keep an eye out for further FIFA 07 Producer blogs as we get closer to launch. I look forward to seeing you in the online field of play.
