Guitar Hero game franchise scores Hendrix hits



The Guitar Hero video game franchise has reeled in a high-profile catch, netting two iconic songs by rock legend Jimi Hendrix for its upcoming installment.

Experience Hendrix, which controls the music legacy of the famed guitarist, has struck a deal with developers Activision and Red Octane to showcase Hendrix's music and likeness for Guitar Hero World Tour, set for release Oct. 27.

The firm will permit the game developers to create an in-game avatar of the famed lefty guitarist and has provided two hit tracks for the fourth installment of the popular title: The Wind Cries Mary and a live version of Purple Haze that was recorded in 1969, a year before his death.
Other Hendrix songs will also be available as downloadable content for the game in the future, the developers said.

While this will not be the first time Hendrix's music has been featured in a game — a cover version of Spanish Castle Magic was part of the first Guitar Hero — it is the first time his figure will be represented in a game, according to the developers.

The fierce rivalry between Guitar Hero and Rock Band has been heating up in advance of new installments of the rock 'n' roll games slated for release this fall.

Though Guitar Hero came along first, allowing participants to play along to rock tunes via guitar-shaped controllers, Rock Band took the idea further by adding a microphone and a drum kit controller to the mix. The upcoming edition of Guitar Hero adds drums and a microphone as well.

Being included in the setlists of these games have become increasingly desired by musicians because they can introduce new, often younger audiences to older or little known bands. They are also a new income source thanks to the large fanbase of enthusiastic players willing to buy and download additional tracks to expand their gameplay.

Announcements about the two upcoming new installments emerged from this week's E3 computer and video game industry summit in Los Angeles.
On Monday, Rock Band developers Harmonix and MTV Games announced that a brand new track from the long awaited Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy would debut on its upcoming sequel Rock Band 2. They also scored tracks from musical heavyweights like Bob Dylan and AC/DC.

A rumoured track-listing for Guitar Hero IV: World Tour has appeared online thanks to GoNintendo. They claim that the list which appears below for you is set to be the real thing and should be confirmed within a matter of days.

Whether or not we trust a Nintendo blog as a source, remains to be seen, but someone either has too much time on there hands or has a vast knowledge of rock music suitable for the game.

Ik ben zo blij dat Korn er eindelijk in zit, die heb ik altijd gemist bij de vorige delen.

Zo, dat ziet er zeer netjes uit!
+44, Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World en NOFX!

 

Hmm, ik vind het een rare lijst. Vooral de eerste helft. 30 Seconds to Mars? Ik vind Assassin van Muse ook zo'n rare keus, omdat ze zelf dat nummer nooit spelen.

Maar man, als het waar is, dan ga ik toch voor GH4 > Rockband 2. Renegades of Funk, Johny B. Goode (mijn BTTF moment ) en Feuer Frei! \m/

Ik verbaasde me ook over I Don't Wanna miss a Thing. Maar toen realiseerde ik me dat je nu een band hebt. Dit nummer is geweldig om te zingen lijkt me!

 

Waarom nooit eens AC/DC? Wel echt geweldig dat Hendrix erin zit

 

Gadverdamme, de lijst is echt verpest door Dragonforce. Maar ik ga 'm wel kopen, uiteraard. Ik geloof wel dat deze lijst echt is. Het is ook heel bijzonder ingedeeld, lijkt me stug als je zoiets zelf verzint. Er zitten veel must haves in.

 

Met het nieuws dat de RB accessoires toch gewoon werken met GH:WT, gecombineerd met een vrij aannemelijke (en uitstekende !) setlist zoals gepost op de vorige pagina wordt het toch erg moeilijk om GH:WT te negeren....

afwachten of t leuk is om te spelen maar ik vind t gewoon goede muziek

 

Erg vette setlist, zit veel leuks tussen. Als dit waar is komt ie er zeker.

Wel grappig, Rock Band 2 krijgt een matig en recent nummer van Dream Theater (Panic Attack), Guitar Hero krijgt Pull me Under wat zo ongeveer hun grootste hit is geweest en echt een classic is. Alleen daarvoor wil ik GH 4 al.

Deze setlist is echt een dream come true!

Ik las ook het interessante vraagstuk: Waarom staat er bossbattle vs Sting (guitar career only)? Aangezien hij bekend is als bassist. Ach, dan maar wachten op de echte lijst.

 

Shame, zou mooi zijn als dit de lijst geweest zou zijn. Ach ja, nog maar eventjes wachten dan.

 

inderdaad, keihard beuken op whole lotta rosie als dit de tracklist is dan ga ik nog wel heel erg twijfelen om Far Cry 2 en BIA HH te laten schieten en deze te halen. iron maiden, hendrix, doors, metallica , black sabbath , dio teveel goede bands stinkfist van tool is een lekker drumnummer
