Enkele kreten:
I'm not sure if it was the work of Shane Bettenhausen or someone else entirely for bringing this game out in North America, but I thank all those involved.
Other than the Destructoid 10/10 review, Deadly Premonition hasn't garnered much praise from "critics", yet gamers all over the internet are praising this title for its hilarity and downright awesomeness. It shows a real divide between what "critics" want and what gamers want. I think Deadly Premonition will end up selling a lot better than probably even Ignition expected due to the internet buzz.
Deadly Premonition is certainly a "budget" game, but it has so much love and care put into it. It's the small details. The good humor. The detailed insides of buildings. All the interaction with your car. Etc. It feels like a combination of a Suda 51 game and the Simple 2000 games. And I welcome this. I love the details and comedy that Suda 51 brings to the table. And I love the fun budget feel that the Simple 2000 series offers, especially the Earth Defense Force games. I also don't mind Onechanbara, although I don't think those games are as good as stuff like Deadly Premonition and Earth Defense Force.
I played Extermination, which I understand was developed by a lot of folks from Access Games. I loved it back in the day on PS2. I also just picked up Spy Fiction due to Deadly Premonition completely surprising me. I missed out on that one entirely.
Anyways, like I said, I love the small details, and world/characters of Deadly Premonition show a lot of care was put into this. It shows a lot of love was poured into this game. I went in expecting a really scary horror game, but I got a quirky, pulp-esque, Japanese title that far exceeded my expectations.
Rarely do games make you laugh due to some completely awesome writing, but Deadly Premonition succeeded at this.
I know it's not a AAA product. The graphics, map, and car controls leave A LOT to be desired, but I still love it, and I thank Ignition for having the courage to release such an odd title in the west. And not only that, but you released a budget title at a true budget price of just $19.99. I'd love to see more of this. There are so many odd Japanese titles that deserve to be released in the west, and at a cheap budget price, they'd probably do fairly well. And you could always just do subtitles if getting voices is too expensive.
As a $20 game that I didn't expect much from, Deadly Premonition gets a 10/10 from me on an enjoyability scale. It's lower if I was to go into the negatives, but this is easily the best budget title I've ever played and well worth its low price of $19.99.
- it is pretty epic and i think im pretty far in it. but geez is it a long one! im used to going through games like mad but this one just takes its time, but in a good way. i love it and its definitely a worth while game to buy
- I bought this game purely on impulse and have never looked back! Pretty much one of the most fun, crazy gaming experiences I've ever had! I don't know if I want a sequel, so much as I want to see more games starring Agent York! A new case every time! Keep 'em coming Ignition, and SWERY! If they're anything like this one, I'll keep buying em!
- I watched 10 minutes of this game earlier today and I started getting a "Twin Peaks" vibe the whole time. This game screams 'sleeper hit'.
