You should probably know what shotcodes are already, right? [If you don't, there a sum-up coming after this intro.]
Shotcodes have already been noticed and discussed earlier, but without any real finds. I haven't found anything great either, but I have something where to begin...
What is a shotcode?
This is a shotcode. It is a circular barcode, that is read by a camera of a phone or webcam, for instance, and an app call Shotreader.
Unlike barcode, Shotcode consists an URL. When the Shotcode is read, the app prompts the browsers to navigate to a particular site. The application is completely free, and creating shotcodes is free/cheap(in greater numbers).
As seen in the picture, this is the anatomy of a shotcode
-Bullseye and 6 rings (=7), with only the 5th and 6th rings consisting actual data (when bullseye is 1st)
-24 sectors, meaning that there are 48 bits in one shotcode, and that the angle of one sector is 360/24=15 degrees.
In the beginning...
There was this picture. Community member JoeRogaine was the first to notice the shotcode in the computer panel on Powerhouse from this pic. When the Beta was online, a screenshot was taken and then, through [required] photoshopping, it was made readable -> this. Ultimately, it led us to a blog.
However, the owner of the blog assured that he hadn't ever been in contact with Bungie, and that it was only a coincidence we found or way there. He had made a shotcode of his site, but it was 3 years ago.
So it showed to be a dead end. One would think this proved it to be nothing.
I disagree: after all, this Shotcode made us aware of what would be coming.

Yep, that was not the last one we would see.
Well, that statement is kind of a lie: There are no other shotcodes. However, there are some circles that one would connect to shotcodes by their design.
The first one was spotted at CAA Factbook on Reach Project Page. You see it? Good.
Naturally, as been said, that is not a shotcode, having only 5 rings and no bullseye.
The second one was seen on the back of the Legendary Edition Statue in this vid.
Still no bullseye, too many rings and additional sectors:Not a shotcode.
The 3rd one is this, seen in the Legendary edition box.
It looks more like the 2nd than the 1st, but is still different. There is now right number of rings (no bullseye though), but still additional thin sectors.
You guessed it: not a shotcode.
Something where to begin
So let's get to The Stuff. What is there to do? What is my point to write a thread to internetz?
A solid connection I noticed.
Count the number of sectors in the CAA Factbook 'shotcode'.
Now, do the same to the other 'shotcodes' in Legendary Statue and Box, and try not to count the thin ones (might be hard though).
You done with it?
Now, how many sectors where there in a shotcode?
24. Just like in all those others. (Also, they totally have the same design. Solid.)
If Bungie hasn't planned this, you can call me anything you ever want.
So, what to do?
Those circles you have seen may not be shotcodes, but they have the stuff for it: namely, 48 bits in 2 rings.
The mission I propose is this: to turn those circles into shotcodes. I believe that when the right datarings are turned into a shotcode, we discover something cool. Maybe.
Since the original circles are not usable due to their messiness, I suggest you use this. You can copy the bits from the rings you seem the best to that shotcode, and then read it to see if you have found something. It should work.
By the way, you can download Shotreader (the app to read Shotcodes) from
m.shotcode.com to your phone.
SO, let the hunt begin! And if my point wasn't lost in the midway, and the text wasn't totally unreadable, you should also know what to do.
