If you’ve read the first part of our multiplayer reveal recap and you’re hungry for more, you’ve come to the right place! In the second half of our coverage, we’ll touch on Create-A-Class 2.0, and everything you can do with it.
Weapons
Without further ado, the assault rifles on the Create-A-Class screen were:
* M16
* Enfield
* M14
* Famas [sic]
* Galil
* AUG
* FN FAL
* AK-47
* Commando [CAR-15/SIG]
* Classified – believed to be H&K G11
Available attachments for the Famas (and presumably all other assault rifles) were:
* Extended Mag
* Dual Mag
* ACOG Sight
* Red Dot Sight
* Reflex [Sight]
* Masterkey [Shotgun attachment]
* Flamethrower
* Infrared Scope
* Grenade Launcher
* Suppresor
You’ll be pleased to hear that the Grenade Launcher ranked among the most expensive attachments, costing 1000 CoD Points, which should hopefully cut down on its abuse. That, along with the Flak Jacket perk which reduces explosive damage taken and apparently reduced splash damage from grenade launchers should help to balance the traditionally unpopular attachment.
The sights can be customized in a load of different ways – there were tens of options just for the shape of your red dot sight!
Whoosh!
Moving on, submachine guns seen included:
* Skorpion
* MP5K
* AK74-U
* Uzi
* MAC-10
* PM63
* MPL
* Spectre
It’s worth noting that Dual Wield is an attachment available for submachine guns.
Shotguns are now primary weapons. 3 were seen at the event:
* Olympia/Double Barrel
* Ithaca (‘Stakeout’ assumed to be a shortened version, available via an attachment)
* SPAS
Next up, snipers:
* L96A1
* WA2000
* Dragunov
Launchers are secondary weapons again. They include:
* M72 LAW
* RPG
* Strela
* China Lake
Also, there are special secondaries. These consist of only the crossbow and the ballistic knife, as far as we’ve seen. Finally, the standard secondary weapon: handguns. Here are the pistols that were seen:
* ASP
* Makarov
* Python
* CZ75
* M1911
Pistols, like sub-machine guns, can be dual wielded. Other attachments for pistols include Speed Reloader, ‘Snub Nose’ for the Python and, strangely, an ACOG sight.
Perks
The news you've all been waiting for: the Commando perk for increased melee range is not in the game. While you're breathing a sigh of relief, the Marathon and Lightweight perks will return and can be combined - but it's not so bad, as Marathon is no longer unlimited sprint. Also, Pro Perks will return. A full list below:
Tier One
Tier One perks affect your apperance. If previous rumours are to be believed, Juggernaut used to be a Tier One perk, but it looks like it's been pulled. At the very least, it wasn't in this build of the game.
* Lightweight - Move faster
* Scavenger - Pick up ammo from fallen enemies
* Ghost - Undetected by the Spy Plane and Blackbird
* Flak Jacket - Reduces explosive damage
* Hardline - Killstreaks require 1 less kill
We don't want to speak too soon, but the Tier One perks look well balanced. There's no perk which is obviously better than the others, and equally none of them seem useless.
Tier Two
The big news in Tier Two: Stopping Power is not included. This makes weapon balancing a lot easier for Treyarch, as they no longer have to consider 1.04 multipliers. Here's what was seen in Tier Two:
* Hardened - Bullets penetrate better (equivalent FMJ attachment in MW2/Deep Impact perk in CoD4)
* Scout - Hold breath longer
* Steady Aim - Increase hip-fire accuracy
* Sleight of Hand - Faster reloads
* Warlord - Equip two attachments to your primary weapon (equivalent of Bling perk in MW2)
Again, these perks look well-balanced at first glance. We can see situations in which you'd require each of these. For those interested in quickscoping, we don't know the Pro version of Sleight of Hand yet - it may well be that it allows faster swapping of weapons rather than faster ADS.
Tier Three
The third tier of perks contains some more familiar perks as well as a few new ones. Notably, the Ninja perk is the equivalent of Modern Warfare 2's Ninja Pro perk. Here's a full list:
* Marathon - Longer sprint (NB, Marathon doesn't provide unlimited sprint)
* Ninja - Silent movement
* Second Chance - Pull out your pistol before dying
* Hacker - Ability to detect enemy equipment and explosives (equivalent of Sit-Rep in MW2)
* Tactical Mask - Reduce the effect of flash and concussion grenades
The third tier of perks will again allow for a lot of freedom in playstyle. If you're rushing with an SMG to capture the enemy flag, you may want to sprint longer (Marathon), have silent footsteps (Ninja), be aware of claymores (Hacker) or run through those flash grenades (Tactical Mask). Equally, a sniper may want to sprint to their favourite position, move more stealthily, get a second chance when shot down or search out enemy camera spikes. There's a lot of freedom, it seems.
Killstreaks
Rather than give you an intro, here's a confirmed killstreak list:
Valkyrie Rockets
Valkyrie Rockets killstreak reward
* 3 – Spy Plane
* 3 – RC-XD (remote bomb)
* 4 – Counter Spy Plane
* 4 – SAM Turret
* 5 – Care Package
* 5 – Napalm Strike
* 6 – Sentry Gun
* 6 – Mortar Team
* 7 – Attack Helicopter
* 7 – Valkyrie Rockets
* 8 – Blackbird
* 8 – Rolling Thunder
* 9 - Chopper Gunner
* 11 – Attack Dogs
* 11 - Gunship
Note that the Care Package is now a 5 killstreak, although it was seen as a 4 killstreak in the multiplayer teaser trailer. It sounds like Treyarch has been listening to feedback about the reward and whether it was too easy to achieve. Also, as well as the possiblity of a random killstreak, players can also get a special weapon from the Care Package, such as the Death Machine chain gun or the Grim Reaper missile launcher.
Remember, kills from killstreaks won't count towards further killstreaks in Call of Duty: Black Ops. This means that a player has to go out and get 11 kills themselves if they want to pilot a Gunship. It should put an end to the vast numbers of killstreaks that could often be seen in a single match of Modern Warfare 2, as players are forced to go out there and earn their rewards.
Maps
Radiation
New map - Radiation
* Launch - tight, close-quarter map set on a missile platform. Features rocket which takes off during the match, frying anyone underneath.
* Summit - mixed map featuring tight pathways and more open areas. Set in a snowy Russian base.
* Radiation - setting is not clear, but according to Kotaku: "It's full of nooks and crannies in which to explore (or camp), dark passageways in which to sneak and hide. There's a large open area in the center, flanked by platforms that offer high ground and a great view of the map. There's also an underground pathway in Radiation that can be accessed by doors. Players can choose to open or close those doors via a switch on a raised platform."
* Cracked
* Slaughter House (Capture The Flag only)
In general, maps seem larger.
