Microsoft has released its free Xbox One SmartGlass app for smartphones and tablets.
Available on the Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, iOS and Android app stores, the SmartGlass app is separate to the existing Xbox 360 one and is used solely to communicate with Xbox One.
SmartGlass offers users the ability to launch and snap games and apps on Xbox One directly from a smartphone or tablet.
It also has bespoke 'SmartGlass Companion' mini-apps for games that support SmartGlass functionality, such as Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Just Dance 2014 and Battlefield 4, as well as apps like Machinima and Internet Explorer.
Some other features can be used without an Xbox One nearby. The Game Search function lets you see the Achievements and existing challenges for any game on Xbox One, while the community clips section lets you view videos uploaded to the cloud by other Xbox One players.
"Connecting Xbox One SmartGlass to your Xbox One is easy," reads a statement on the Xbox Wire site. "Just use the same wireless network on your Xbox One SmartGlass-enabled device as your Xbox One and open the app to automatically connect to your console.
"Once synced, you can use Xbox One SmartGlass to fly through your console set-up by using gestures to navigate and your device's keyboard to log in to Xbox Live."
