Shenmue PS4 possibly teased in new PS4 trailer
Sony has potentially teased that the Shenmue series is coming to PlayStation 4 following the release of a new trailer for the console’s Japanese launch.
Seen below, the trailer itself showcases the PS4’s much-lauded Share function. However, eagle-eyed gamers have noticed that at two points in the video, the name ‘Ryo H.’ is clearly visible.
What’s the significant of this? Well, Ryo Hazuki (Ryo H.) just happens to be the main protagonist of Shenmue. While this could mean nothing at all - after all, Ryo is a popular Japanese name - Shenmue rumors have been gathering pace as of late, so the timing is spot on.
Furthermore, next month’s GDC will feature a Shenmue dissection from creator Yu Suzuki, translated by Sony PS4 architect and Knack mastermind, Mark Cerny.
Shenmue reached cult status following its release on the Dreamcast back in 2000, and spawned one sequel, 2001’s Shenmue II, before fading into oblivion. The games focus on student Hazuki-san as he attempts to track down the man responsible for his father’s murder in the 1980s.
A third game has been rumored for the best part of the last decade, and while at one stage it was believed to be in development during the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, nothing ever materialized.
Reports of a high-definition re-release of Shenmue surfaced two years ago, but again, this failed to come into fruition. Nonetheless, Suzuki-san remains confident he is able to make Shenmue III, providing he can get the license.

Uncharted PS4 has been in development for 3 years
The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) has indicated that the next chapter in the Uncharted series - currently in the works for PlayStation 4 - has been in development for three years.
Shuhei Yoshida made the comments during an interview with Inside Games, while discussing PS4’s impressive visual performance.
“After the release of the PS4, the time in which developers are getting accustomed to the hardware is coming. After three years Naughty Dog’s work has finally become exciting, isn’t it?”
Yoshida-san clearly doesn’t mention Uncharted by name, though it seems likely he is referring to Nathan Drake’s next adventure. Furthermore, with Uncharted 3 having wrapped in 2011, the timing seems just right, too.
Elsewhere, the executive spoke on how the likes of The Last of Us and Uncharted have managed to realistically convey emotions similar to those in films, minus some subtle differences -- or the ‘uncanny valley phenomenon,’ as it’s known.
He said Quantic Dream’s The Dark Sorcerer tech demo goes one step further however, making it hard to discern whether it is live action or digital.
Naughty Dog has yet to reveal any concrete details on Uncharted 4, and it is unknown when the game will arrive on shelves.
