SUCKER PUNCH SAYS PS4 PRELOADING IS COMING IN APRIL
A tweet from Sucker Punch suggests that game preloads will come very shortly.
People looking for an excuse to go all digital on the PlayStation 4 may have some incentive to do so if this tweet from Infamous: Second Son developer Sucker Punch is accurate.
According to the studio, preload functionality will come to the PlayStation 4 in April. Preload is the ability to download a game before release and have it unlocked when the clock strikes midnight or whenever the game is scheduled to release. Steam members have enjoyed preloading on the PC front for years, typically being able to download a game a week before launch to help reduce server load on high profile releases.
Sucker Punch says that PS4 players will be able to download Infamous: Second Son at midnight PT tonight, but without preloading, users will have to wait on the game's download in order to play it (which is said to be 24GB in install size). Preloading would definitely help this generation as game sizes have significantly increased compared to last gen.
Update: It appears there was some confusion as Yoshida clarifies that the controller's lightbar can be dimmed, not completely turned off. Not exactly a reversal then, but an option that should help somewhat.
