Season Six of 'Community' to Premiere on Yahoo Screen March 17
It was announced Tuesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that Community will christen its new Yahoo! Screen home on March 17, with two episodes, and then release a new one each Tuesday thereafter.
SAYING GOODBYE TO FAMILIAR FACES: You may recall that Yvette Nicole Brown announced in September that she's leaving the series; as a result, Shirley will be written out in the first episode. However, the door is open for the character to return in the future. Harmon couldn't say whether or not we'd see her this season, but did confirm that John Oliver and Jonathan Banks won't appear because of their commitments to Last Week Tonight and Better Call Saul, respectively, but the writers are hoping to bring them back for guest spots. Harmon also said that he prays to the gods nightly so that "Donald Glover will come down my chimney and come back to the show."
NEW CHARACTERS: As previously announced, Season 6 will welcome two new series regulars, Paget Brewster and Keith David. Brewster's character is a problem solver who's been hired to fix Greendale's problems. David's character is a computer programmer who wasted a lot of time on virtual reality technology in the '90s. He sacrificed a lot of his personal life for the sake of his career and is now starting over.
CHEVY CHASE: "I think he was talking about Season 4," Harmon quipped when asked to weigh in on Chevy Chase's recent remarks that he's returning to Community. "If something like [resurrecting Pierce] were to happen, you'd want to keep it a secret."
NO SPECIAL EPISODES: Community will be taking a break from themed episodes in Season 6 in order to explore the characters and their backstories. "There's just a bunch of Community themed episodes," joked Harmon, who said he still has hope they'll be able to do something cool again in the future.
