Wat Divinity user tips (dank aan nivarius op self.DivinityOriginalSin):
============================================================
Thought I'd write up some tips for people getting into D: OS now that EE is out, quite a lot did change after all.
But before that:
How much did change? I already played D: OS once, is EE enough to warrant another playthrough/I thought about getting D: OS but didn't, did EE improve it enough to convince me? Is EE noticeably better? etc.
A lot changed. More than you can be bothered to read through. The biggest changes however seem to be: More balanced economy and combat, better loot system, new difficulty modes, new quests, new puzzles, a crafting UI, better graphics, much faster save and load times and better performance in general, voice acting for all dialogue, changed dialogue, completely new ending with new NPCs and areas, a new "grenade" item class, dual wielding and a new weapon class.
So yeah, I recommend playing through Enhanced Edition.
Tips
- Don't play Tactician mode unless you know exactly what you're doing. It's not the kind of difficulty you can handle without extensive knowledge about the game's combat; if you lack that knowledge you'll either get stuck on the very first encounter like plenty of others or you'll force yourself to cheese through the entire game. Although even that may prove difficult since a lot of cheese was removed or nerfed.
- Some builds were nerfed while others were buffed, but any build can be viable as long as you plan out your party formation. Instead of looking for the best overall build available try to find ways to optimize the one build you want to play.
- Skills were changed so read their item descriptions before using them. Don't be surprised if you drop a boulder on someone and end up with an oil surface instead of poison ooze.
- Don't underestimate debuffs just because you can get them early on. Slowing a group of enemies at the start of a fight can make the difference between failing an encounter and clearing it without taking damage.
- Cyseal has new characters and quests. Make sure to complete as many of them as you can before heading out.
- You might want to wait with specializing in crafting/identifying/smithing and so on until you've got your full party together. NPC companions also have skills and you don't want to end up wasting skill points on a second crafter.
- Wands shoot projectiles just like bows, except they don't use arrows. Staves are not part of the wand class and as such do not benefit from the Wand skill.
- You can always add skill classes later on. If you really can't decide on what kind of build you want to roll just focus all your character creation points on non-combat skills and attributes (Perception, Constitution and Speed work on every build). Once you've picked your companions and read some skill descriptions you can add the classes you think sound interesting.
- Grenades work like modified arrows except they don't require a bow.
- Most food items seem to heal 10% of your max HP now. If you don't have the money to buy potions nor the resources to craft them you can just eat 10 apples in between encounters. Beds and sleeping bags also heal you and they're found all across the world.
- Read the descriptions for each stat in your inventory screen to get a better understanding of the AP system.
- Read the books, read the dialogue and read your journal. It tells you where to go and what to look for.
- Read the guides in the side bar.
Couple additions:
- If you want to craft things you'll have to read just about all the numbered books you can find, like The String Enthusiast, Secrets Of The Scroll, Fun With Fluids, He Who Smelts It and so on. Just opening those books won't always give you a recipe. Sometimes the description is intentionally left vague to make you experiment and find multiple recipes at once. This is by far the best way to get into the huge crafting system. For the full crafting experience you should look into getting an Ink Pot and Quill, a Needle and Thread, and a Pestle and Mortar.
- Vendors stop selling low level books once you're high level. Make sure to get the stuff you want early on or you might find yourself unable to buy it.
- Cooldowns decrease with a higher attribute score. For example: A mage with a lot of Intelligence can cast Blitz Bolt each turn whereas a new player has to wait 6 turns.
That's about everything I have so far. Anyone else got stuff to share?
