With the past few
Call of Duty games being set in the not-too-distant future, some franchise fans might be thinking or wishing that future games in the franchise — specifically this year’s iteration being developed by Infinity Ward — either return to the present day, or go back to the World War II era. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening.
Noted industry insider shinboi602 has posted a few details on this year’s
Call of Duty over on NeoGAF and he mentions how the game will be set in the very far future, will go the sci-fi route, and even have space battles!
While we usually don’t believe or report on any rumors that pop up out of nowhere, shinobi does have a very decent track record when it comes to these things. Of note, he leaked that
Black Ops 3 will
feature wall-running, and
robotic limbs and cybernetics which the Specialists used that all turned out to be spot-on. Not only that, but he confirmed that
Black Ops 3 was
coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 and that it was being handled by
another studio (not Treyarch).
Of course, don’t forget that this is still a rumor until verified or debunked by Activision or Infinity Ward. But if this year’s
Call of Duty game does feature space battles, then don’t be surprised, alright?
How do you feel about the franchise going even further into the future? Would space battles and going completely sci-fi give Infinity Ward’s iteration of
Call of Duty its much-needed refresh or will it fare worse than Ghosts?
We’ve reached out to Activision and will update the post if and when they respond.
