So with Skyrim Special Edition hitting Game Pass (for console!) today, I thought it was worth sharing this little mod tip. As you may or may not know, Skyrim Special Edition supports all sorts of lovely mods and user created expansions etc. Some of the biggest and widely used mods are available on your Xbox version including graphics mods, unofficial patches, actual content expansions. A lot of it is there.

But with one caveat. Using mods on console disables achievements. EXCEPT ONE.

With the launch of Series X/S, the 'Uncap FPS' mod has received a resurgence because Series X has absolutely no problem running Skyrim at native 4k/60fps when using the mod. It crushes it. The game did recieve a One X/PS4 Pro update to 4k but, without this mod, the game has a hardlock of 30fps.

Unlike other mods, the Uncap FPS mod initialises when the game launches. It does not kick in when you click 'enable mod' in the mods section. What this means is that you can enable the mod, restart the game, then disable the mod, thus making the game think you have no mods running, and then load your save and the mod will still be active. So steps below...

    1. Search in the mods for 'Uncap FPS'. It's thumbnail is just a black box with 'UNCAP FPS' written in it.
    2. Make sure the mod is enabled (it should have a tick on it if it is).
    3. Close down your game.
    4. Restart the game (these two steps take no time at all on a Series X/S)
    5. Diable the mod from the mods manager
    6. Start your game/load your save
While these steps may initial sound like an annoyance (because you have to do this each time the game boots), I would say two things... number one, the game supports Quick Resume. As long as the game is in your Quick Resume queue (so Skyrim and four other games or so?) you will only have to do these steps once. I have been playing all week and Quick Resume has worked a treat. And, number two, Skyrim loads and restarts insanely fast on Series X/S. I timed how long it took to enable the mod, restart the game fully, load back into the mod manager and then disable the mod again and it was under two minutes. Like 110 seconds. It's basically an instant loading game with one Bethesda splash screen to get through. Restarting the game is actually the quickest part of this process, refreshing the mod manager twice took longer. So even if you lose the Quick Resume it's no bother

Finally, we have some exciting announcements for the game itself. Current and future owners of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on any platform including Xbox Game Pass Subscribers will receive access to three free pieces of Creation Club content: Fishing, Survival Mode and even new quests with Saints and Seducers. Additionally, Skyrim Special Edition owners on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, as well as Xbox Game Pass subscribers on Xbox Series X|S will receive a free upgrade to an enhanced version on November 11 for their respective PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S systems!

We're also excited to announce the most definitive version of Skyrim to date: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition. In addition to the three free Creation Club items mentioned above, this version contains the full game plus all three expansions and over 500 pieces of unique content from Creation Club, including pre-existing and new quests, dungeons, bosses, weapons, spells and more!

Existing owners of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition and Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also receive the option to purchase an Anniversary Edition upgrade for their Special Edition version of the game to gain access to all the additional content found in the Anniversary Edition.

Inclusief 500 CC mods.
