"Microsoft comes clean: Xbox will launch in Europe next March, “give or take a couple of weeks”
In a London press conference yesterday, Sandy Duncan, vice president of the home and retail division of Microsoft UK, practically confirmed a release date for Xbox in Europe, but refused to be drawn on specifics.
Duncan is quoted by Bloomberg as saying that Xbox will launch in Europe “next March, give or take a couple of weeks”. The news comes on the back of trade predictions that the console will hit retail on March 15, 2002 across the Continent.
Despite the apparent confirmation of schedule, albeit vague, Microsoft PR refused to acknowledge the validity of the date today. “Our official line is that we launch in the first quarter next year,” said a spokesperson. “You can see from that quote that it could be anything from February to April.”
No price has been set for the European machine as yet, but America will see a $299 tag attached to Xbox. Unless Hell has frozen over, or that rather fetching pig over there has sprouted wings, that means £299 for Britain and the equivalent for the rest of Europe.
Microsoft is unlikely to confirm a solid date for launch until ECTS this September, so don’t hold your breath just yet. But one thing’s for sure: you can bank on getting your hands on a PAL machine next March."
sucky sucky 5$
