Microsoft has conceded defeat in its battle to fledge the Xbox into the online world in Europe this year. As the beta-testing gets underway in Europe, first impressions of the service have been hugely favourable, with testers reporting rapid data exchange and low ping. The reason for the delay is said to be that the infrastructure will not in place in time, however the US Xbox Live still launches in the US on the 15th November this year. A Europe-wide launch is now expected in Spring 2003.

Dat zag ik ja, maar waar is hun source? Denk je dat die kleine mini-site zulke belangrijke inside info heeft over Xbox Live? Ze vermelden geen source dus ik twijfel ernsitg aan de validiteit.

Meer mesnen hebben gezecht dat het uitgestelt word, ik ga hun toch ook niet klakkeloos geloven!

Das waar! Ik denk dat ze het nieuws recht uit hun poepertje trekken, maarja laten we geen voorbarige conclusies trekken aan de hand van een sumiere site met twijfelachtige sources.

 

dit is waarschijnlijk BS maar al die grote Xbox sites zijn tijdelijk niet beschikbaar dus kun je het ook niet controleren

 

Dit is een los gerucht, die vind je ook niet snel op grote sites dus... confirmatie komt alleen door Microsoft zelf.

7.25 Will I be able to play Xbox Live on my US Xbox from overseas?

Update: One of my inside sources told me that his contact at Microsoft thinks a US Xbox will work fine overseas. At this point I take this answer to be more reliable than the one I got from chat support, only because the chat people are bombarded with all sorts of questions and may not be up to date on the latest info for Xbox Live. I don't blame Chris in the least.
The old answer (still possibly correct):

The surprising answer is "no". According to Microsoft's chat support folks, only US Xboxes in North America will be able to log onto the US Xbox Live servers. Furthermore, US Xboxes will not be able to log onto foreign Xbox Live servers at all. I can only assume Microsoft is doing some sort of IP address checking to keep overseas Xboxes logging onto the US servers.

This is disappointing news, because it means that all US Xboxes currently overseas will be unable to play Xbox Live, period. If you live overseas, you will need to buy an Xbox from your area, an Xbox Live starter kit from your area, and sign onto servers in your area.

I am trying to verify this information with other sources, but below is the chat transcript (edited somewhat for clarity):

Chris- US Xboxes outside of it's original country will not be able to log in to Xbox Live.

Chris- Yes. Xbox Live will be launched in North America on November 15th, and shortly thereafter in Europe, Japan , and Australia.
Boid- OK, well specifically I have a guy in Taiwan who owns a US Xbox, with US games, and he intends to purchase the US version of XBL software. I just want to confirm that you are saying that when Xbox Live launches in Japan (I suppose) he will be able to play from Taiwan with his US Xbox.
Chris- No. It will not work that way. He would need to have a Japanese Xbox, with Japanese XBL games and a Japanese XBL Subscription.
Boid- Ouch again. Doesn't affect me personally, but as author of the FAQ, I'm going to get a bunch of people yelling at me like it's my fault. I guess there are a lot of US Xboxes overseas. Ah well, thanks for the help.
