Hello, first of all i'm going to say that this info was given to me by a very reliable source, i got it from a guy i know who works for sega, he asked me not to post his name due to the fact that it might put his job at risk. i only asked him a couple questions because when he brought up the Append Disc, i didn't even know what it was, so here are the questions i asked and the answers:
Q: "What exaclty is the append disc?"
A: "Put very simply, it is basically a sequel to the game, but instead of just making a Sega GT 2003 right away, we have decided that it would be a better idea to just improve on Sega GT 2002. For examle, in a normal sequel to a game, there is usually nothing but gamplay and sroy line linked together, with the append disc, there is much more then that, there will be more tracks, more cars, and also, a longer GT "career" mode, the main thing that links the append disc with Sega GT 2002 is, you can continue your racing career into the append disc's GT career mode, you can load your previous game data from Sega GT 2002, so that you can keep upgrading your favorite cars, etc."
Q: "O.k., i have to ask, i've seen sony do this so many times, where a game, or even piece of PS2 hardware will only be released in japan, is the actually going to be released in north america?"
A: "At this point we are not completely sure of this, but i can assure you that there is a 99.9% chance that it will be available to people world wide, after all, the Xbox is and american made console, so only releasing software in japan would be kind of a strange move don't you think?"
Q: "Any info on when the append disc will be released?"
A: "No, nobody has any idea when this disc will released, all we know right now is that we are no where near worrying about a release date, you'll just have to wait and see just like everybody else."
and that's all the info i got because i didn't even know what an append disc was until he brought it up, then i saw a topic talking about it on the Sega GT 2002 board and that led me here, and i seen that all of you people had no info on it and wanted some : P i haven't posted this anywhere but here, so if you want to post it somewhere like on your web site or something, please reply and ask for permission first.
