Ik denk serieus later deze week ik ook.
Ep9:
The scene where Jon is riding for Ramsay, alone, with no other choice. He can't turn back, because the arrows are keeping him from doing so. The only way to escape their deadly rain is to ride forwards, in to death, in to defeat, alone.
And then Jon's horse falls, and he knows he is defeated. All he can do is go down swinging. The music builds as we watch our hero, ready to die a second time. The orchestra reflects Jon in this moment; calm, serene, and at peace with himself. He's faced death before. He can do it again.
"We have to charge!" his men say, watching helplessly as their commander is forced to face the enemy. We have to charge. We must. Our leader needs us. We will be there for him. He was there for us. We will not win. We will die. But we will try.
The music swells, the shot pans out, and then...
A clash. Chaos, confusion. No more music. No more heroics. Just the sound of battle, steel on steel, steel on flesh, steel on everything. The reality of warfare. Jon is unable to process what is happening, and so are we. He realizes that his men abandoned their plan -- Davos, Tormund, everyone abandoned the plan of not charging, of playing smart and waiting, of potential victory, all because they believe in Jon, because they love Jon, and because they will not allow him to die alone this time.
This scene is beautiful, but the way it uses the score, the cinematography and everything else to bring it together is the mark of a brilliant director. We feel like Jon in that moment.
Well fucking done.
