    Hey Volunteernl,

Your thread is in the wrong place so I'm just gonna move it. I'm sure there will be people able to help you.

Hi Volunteernl the first thing I need to know is: What is your setup ... do want to use adirect connection (so do you have an ethernet router) or will you need another setup ... router or ICS ... what have you tried and what where the problems?

I am first going to try to get you on-line ... if that doesn't solve your we will have to work around ... (hopefully not around conners) ;)

Actually haha I have Mxstream with an Alcatel speed touch modem myself and I use a Sitecom Router xDSL/Cable 4S to use Xbox Live. Maybe you could explain a little bit more about how you want your connection set up. (Multiple lines, problems etc)

Did you setup Internet Connection Sharing on your computer ... otherwise only one system can be on-line at the time...

what you could try first is

    1 ) turn off computer
    2 ) turn off xbox
    3 ) turn off Modem
    4 ) wait a few seconds
    5 ) Turn on Modem
    6 ) Turn on Xbox
    7 ) Start Xbox Live

if you want to use your computer again

    1 ) turn off computer
    2 ) turn off xbox
    3 ) turn off Modem
    4 ) wait a few seconds
    5 ) Turn on Modem
    6 ) Turn on computer
    7 ) surf the internet

You're now using a direct connection

If this solves your problem ... you haven't setup ICS yet so that would be the next step .. or you will have to turn off you're computer ... while playing on Xbox Live

    Thank you, but.....

Thank you for your first solution, but it did not help. I think that I need to know the correct mxstream settings. If I can not connect directly, I worry about trying a shared connection.

    Set up

    Gerbo,

I have a network with two PC's running into a dual speed hub (EDIMAX) with the Xbox now added to the hub. This runs to the Alcatel Speedtouch home and to a mxstream DSL connection. I would like to have a shared connection, but have never been able to achieve this with the 2 pc's.

I had the same problem with an alcatel speed touch home modem connected to a hub. The problem is that this modem uses a different protocol, PPTP in stead of PPP. the solution to this problem is to tweak your modem to become a pro version. It is possible to do this yourself, there are several (english) guides on the internet how to do this. However, this is entirely at your own risk, you might mess up your modem completely. Your warranty will also void if you do this.

Despite the risks, I did it and I pulled it off, now it works perfectly for me :)

That's indeed the second part off the problem ... actel has an MTU problem ... but if you first follow ... the copy-cat sollution .. and you still cannot connect to live ... you'll need to tweak your modem

follow the links Dw gave you :)

    Peepz,

It is right that you can not use a direct connection between Xbox and modem when connecting to Mxstream (aka KPN ADSL), but to tweak your Alcatel is not really a good advice.

The Alcatel has documented bugs in its firmware which will sooner or later give you trouble when you use it as a router.

The best solution in this situation is cough up a few Euro and buy a decent router which will replace the position of your hub. You don't have to buy the most expensive thing in the market, but excellent routers (i.e. Draytek) can be purchased on the used equipment market for approx 50 Euro. See www.marktplaats.nl or www.ebay.nl.

Pejannl is as always correct .. First try the copy-cat solution ... then consider another modem

if you're going to buy another router anyway, you can just as well try to tweak it, if it breaks, you can buy a new one...

And buy a new modem as well...

As I wrote before: The Alcatel is not a suitable router. Tweaked or not.

As a matter of fact, I have tweaked my Alcatel. But the reason I tweaked it was that I wanted it to suport another network provider (Bbned instead of KPN). I have set it to bridged mode so I am not using its router functuonality. Instead, I got myself the real thing (Vigor 2200E) and used that as a router behind the Alcatel. That works excellently.

If you want to go the fancy way (and now a techie starts writing) then get yourself one of those all bells and whistles new wireless-G fancy routers. I am using a Linksys WRV54G since a few weeks and its quality is unbelievable for a SoHo priced router. Alternatively, you can use one of the new Vigor 2900 series routers.

This is the way to go and it beats the shit out of using an Alcatel as a router.

Pejannl is right... tweaking your modem is - like I said - the cheapest solution, and it worked fine for me untill recently.. My browser sometimes has trouble displaying pictures, and especially peer-to-peer programs do not function properly - for some reason they believe that I'm firewalled, though I'm not. So I'm considering to buy a decent router (I was thinking of a Sitecom), but then I would have to reconfigure my modem to act no longer as a router (is that what you meant with 'bridged mode', Pejannl?) but solely as a modem again. But I have no idea how to do this. Hopefully dear mister Pejannl could help me with that once I have a new router?? :)

    Dude, it's all documented stuff...

Go to http://www.bruring.com (home of the Speedtouch tweak). Select "Guides" and then choose the documentation on "Tweak zonder NAT --> Direct op internet" (this is in Dutch).

This document will show you how to get your public IP straight on your new router. Then you configure your new router as NAT gateway and there you go!

PS: Don't confuse a Sitecom with "a decent router". :+

thanx Pejannl, I was pretty sure there was a guide somewhere on the internet, I was just hoping you would know a link to it ;)

And I know Sitecom might nog be the best out there, it seems to me as pretty good stuff, and not to expensive (my budget is not thát high :p).
