TONY HAWK EXTENDS LONG-TERM EXCLUSIVE VIDEO GAME LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH ACTIVISION


World’s Greatest Skateboarder and Action Sports Star Continues to Headline Activision O2’s Highly Successful Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Franchise

Santa Monica, CA – July 23, 2002 -- Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that the company has extended its successful partnership with world-renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk through an exclusive multi-year video game licensing agreement that expires in 2015. Mr. Hawk will continue to headline Activision O2’s flagship action sports franchise, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, which has generated approximately $500 million worldwide through March 31, 2002 and which was the single largest independent U.S. video game franchise during calendar 2001, according to NPD.

Mr. Hawk has worked exclusively with Activision since 1998. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater debuted in 1999 and since then has been the #1 action sports franchise across all console platforms and hand-held gaming systems. In addition to appearing in upcoming video games, Mr. Hawk will continue to consult on the development of the titles to ensure authenticity and realism.

Activision’s award-winning studio, Neversoft Entertainment, currently is in development with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, the latest title in the series, which is slated for release this fall on all of the next-generation console platforms.

Als het dan nog super goed verkocht word, zullen ze er nog wel langer mee doorgaan denk ik.

 

2015 gaan ze NIET halen.

Bijna jaarlijks verschijnt er nu een nieuwe Tony Hawk game. Ze worden steeds beter maar de vernieuwingen worden steeds minimalistischer. Hetzelfde was het geval met FIFA een paar jaar geleden.

Nu krijgt FIFA totaal geen lovende kritieken meer en zweert iedereen bij Pro Evolution Soccer, die eveneens in de komende jaren onderuit zal gaan aan de zelfde zelfverheerlijking.

Tony Hawk 4 kenmerkt zich bijvoorbeeld al door mini-games, dat wijkt af van skateboarden en toont het gebrek aan creativiteit op het gebied van het skateboarden zélf. Deel vijf kent vast nog meer mini-games, misschien op elke console een online functie maar dan heb je het gehad ook.

Tony Hawk stevent op deze manier af naar een keiharde ondergang. Activision, O2, Neversoft, gij zijt gewaarschuwd.
