January 14, 2003 - Analysts at Dundee Securities Corporation are reporting that ATI is "well positioned" to be the graphics chip supplier for the next iteration of the Xbox.
This news is interesting for quite a few reasons. First off, ATI is also the company that Nintendo uses for its Gamecube. Also, having ATI as the supplier will only add to ATI's current lead against archrival Nvidia, the graphics chip supplier for the current Xbox. While nothing is set in stone, you can be sure that Microsoft will benefit from the fierce battle ATI and Nvidia are having since they are trying to bring down the BOM (bill of materials).

Also, because Intel has not been chosen as the CPU supplier, you can bet that AMD and Intel are also in a heated battle. AMD was originally going to be the supplier for the current Xbox until a certain meeting took place with Mr. Gates himself. Going with an AMD chip would also bring prices down, and everyone knows that a cheaper Xbox 2 is always a good thing.

we zullen zien ;) (hopen van nvidia)

ATI zou zeker ook geen slechte optie zijn, sterker nog, ik denk dat ATI alleen maar een verbetering zou zijn t.o.v. Nvidea. Maar we zullen het rustig afwachten... :)
