Question: Is the following e-mail genuine (really from MS?). There is a lot of confusion about it:
( Marvic has joined )
( Michael has joined )
Michael: Hello and welcome to Xbox interactive online chat support! My name is Michael
Marvic: hi
Marvic: Attention Xbox Console Owner:
Due to reconfigurations in our servers, we need you to reregister your Xbox video game system. Reregistering will ensure that you receive the full support entitled to you as an Xbox owner. It allows you to quickly get answers to questions and properly take advantage of your warranty.
Marvic: Simply go to Xbox.com, click on “Xbox Hardware” at the top of the page, and choose “Register your Xbox” from the “Xbox Support” section in the bottom, right-hand corner of your screen. Or, to make it even easier for you, simply go to the following link:
http://www.xbox.com/myxbox/xboxregistration
Marvic: You will need an Xbox.com login name and password to enter this page. If you haven’t already set up an Xbox.com account, just click on the “Create a New Account” button when you are prompted with the “Sign In” screen.
We greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter and apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 1.800.4MY.XBOX.
Marvic: Thank you for your continued support of Xbox, the future-generation video gaming system.
Xbox Support
Marvic: People are wondering if this e-mail is really from MS and especially why the did receice it.
Michael: Thanks, Marvic. Yes, to the best of our knowledge, this is a legitimate email. Are you unable to reregister your Xbox?
Marvic: I noticed many times that I registered my xbox one year ago, and as many others, it said a few weeks later: no xbox registerd. Every time I was told there was an upgrade on the site and that it would be fixed. Now, 1 year later, we get this request....very confusing!
Michael: Have you tried complying and still get nowhere?
Marvic: Why this e-mail? I was told it would be fixed, and beside that, via the reward pack you should also know wat my serial would be. So thats why there is a lot of confusion.
Michael: Thanks, and we apologize that this has been a frustrating experience for you. For documentation purposes, can you please let me know which country you are chatting with us from?
Marvic: In the last year I tried many time to solve it on my own, of course it said that that serial was already registered, so the combination of messages of your side (webside upgrades) and my efforts didnt have any effect. And now we got this e-mail
Marvic: I am from the Netherlands.
Michael: Thanks. Now, have you tried following the instructions in this new email? Or are you still unable to re-register your Xbox even now?
Marvic: To be hones, I was a little sceptoc, and I dind tried it myself, BUT on the frequently visited messegboards some people said that they tried it and got the same message that their serial is already registered.
Michael: Thank you, Marvic. Regarding this email, we suggest trying to reregister using our site, and if that fails, we ask that you contact your local Xbox Customer Care number, which I will give to you now.
Marvic: So whats the deal with this e-mail, to fix the "no xbox registered" in your account into another chance to register it, without getting the message of "allready registered"?
Michael: 0800 023 3894 is the number to call.
Marvic: Is that the purpose of the e-mail?
Michael: Essentially, yes, to fix your online account so that your Xbox shows as registered once more.
Michael: And due to reconfigurations in our servers, as the email states
Marvic: Well, ok, i will try it myself later at home ;-) and if it fail I will do a last attempt to get it registered via the website by calling Customer Care.
Michael: Thanks for your understanding, Marvic. May I assist you with anything else?
Marvic: Yes, but I was hearing that all year "the reconfiguration of the servers" Thats why I am sceptical ;-)
Marvic: No, thnx for clearing things up!
Michael: It was a pleasure chatting with you today, for your convenience and future reference, you will receive by e-mail a detailed transcript of our chat, including all site links and services. Thank you for inquiring about Xbox. If you need further assistance, please come back and visit us again. I hope you have a nice day!
