Figures published late last week on business news website Yahoo Finance from respected data reporting firm DFC Intelligence which showed Nintendo's GameCube opening up a 500,000 unit lead over Microsoft's Xbox in the USA were the result of a typo, it transpires. The figures, which were widely reported on the Internet - including on this site - placed the GameCube on an installed base of 2.7 million units in the territory, and the Xbox on 2.2 million. However, a mistake on the part of Yahoo Finance had accidentally inverted the figures - which should have showed Xbox on 2.7 million units, and the Cube on 2.2 million. 11/12/2002 GamesIndustry.biz
