With the announcement of Games for Windows – LIVE, Microsoft is extending the Xbox LIVE® games and entertainment network to Windows®. This new service brings together the most popular online console game service with the most popular games platform in the world. As a unified service with Xbox LIVE, Games for Windows – LIVE will be available in every country and region supported today by Xbox LIVE®.

What does this mean to you? Imagine a world where a single online identity, a single Gamertag and a single friends list allows you to easily find your friends online and communicate with them across Windows computers and Xbox 360 consoles. Imagine a single list of achievements and Gamerscore that allows you to track and compare your gaming accomplishments. Imagine the ability to play online with your friends, even cross-platform between your Windows based PC and Xbox 360 in supported games, without the need to configure anything. Sounds too good to be true? It’s real and it’s coming soon!

When will it be available and what games can I play?

Debuting in May with the launch of Halo 2® for Windows Vista™, Games for Windows – LIVE will connect Windows gamers via text and voice-chat to over six million gamers already in the Xbox LIVE community. Then in June, Shadowrun™ will for the first time, connect Windows gamers with Xbox 360 players in cross-platform matches using a single service. UNO, releasing later in 2007 will also support cross platform play between Windows and Xbox 360.

I’m already a member of Xbox LIVE® what does this mean for me?

Members of Xbox LIVE® automatically receive the functionality of Games for Windows – LIVE, using the same Gamertag and friends list at no additional cost, yes… no additional cost. For a single, unified service, the pricing of the LIVE service across both Xbox and Games for Windows is identical. In addition, Games for Windows – LIVE introduces the best of Xbox LIVE functionality to please PC gamers, such as in-game voice chat, integrated achievements and dedicated servers. The offering of both Silver and Gold memberships will remain in place for gamers on the Xbox 360 and Windows PC. There is no cost associated with signing up for a Silver membership. Gold memberships will deliver the premium online network experience for $49.95 (U.S.) per year. Current Xbox LIVE Gold members will automatically have access to Gold features on Games for Windows – LIVE titles. How sweet is that!

Wie weet wat dit inhoud? Snap er niet veel van. Misschien moet dit verplaatst worden naar de games sectie.

 

Dat je in de toekomst een spel bijv als halo 2 dan op xbox live kan spellen met mensen die op pc spellen.Dus mensen kunnen een spel spellen online op pc en live met elkaar.

 

Halo 2 voor de PC zal de eerste game worden die bepaalde functies van Xbox Live overbrengt naar de pc. je kan dan je friends bekijken, berichten sturen etc allemaal vanuit die game.

 

Relax. Wist niet dat dat op de planning stond.

 

Vind ut eigenlijk wel chill, alleen zit een vriend van mij te vloeken dat ie nu /Mod niet toegestaan op XBW enzo doordat vista beveiligd nu is.

Zelf heb je nu toch live-anywhere cross-system etc chillll .

Jee, dit is dus echt zwaar klote.. LIVE! moet op XBOX blijven waar het thuis hoort, als het naar de PC komt neemt het alle fun weg; zie achievements (discusieerbaar), cross-platform multiplayer (bagger), betalen om online te gamen(!!!)

Heb je alles wel goed gelezen, jezelf goed geinformeerd?

Ik ga alleen effe in op je laatste argument aangezien die totaal niet waar is. PC tegen PC is en zal gratis blijven. Alleen als je PC tegen XBOX 360 wilt spelen moet je betalen. Voor de gewone PC gamer veranderd er nu dus niet veel behalve dat ze nu ook lid kunnen worden van de community en achievements kunnen behalen. Denk niet dat de meeste PC gamers geld gaan neerleggen om alleen tegen de xbox360 spelers te spelen dus dat zal niet eens zoveel voorkomen (behalve dan de mensen die al Xbox Live gold hebben).

 

Binnenkort komt ook Shadowrun uit.


Dat word samen met Halo2 een van de eerste games waar pc en 360 spelers het tegen elkaar opnemen. En het blijkt dat het toch aardig werkt:

"Ive spoken directly with 5 or so people on the BETA and they couldnt tell who was playing pc or 360"

Maargoed dat moet je uitaard maar met een korreltje zout nemen, of het echt werkt moeten we gewoon even afwachten. Opzich lijkt me het idee wel vet, vooral een spel als Project Offset word denk ik wel cool als ze het 64 man tegen elkaar gaat als ze het teminste goed uitweten te werken. FF afwachten dus maar...

 

Halo 2 wordt geen Cross-Platform, je kunt daar alleen berichten sturen enzo, maar volgens mij niet PC vs 360 spelen hoor. Of heb ik het mis?

 

Inderdaad Halo 2 is geen cross-platform, verkeerd gelezen.

 

Och ik zal 't wel is gaan proberen. Ik draai Vista en heb een XBL Gold Membership dus k zal Halo 2 voor Vista is gaan kopen

Ik denk ik ook lijkt me wel vet ^^ Ik speel de laatste tijd ook weer op m'n xbox halo2, misschien omdat ik niet kan wachten op de halo3 beta

Kheb een hele tijd geleden al een thread aangemaakt hier over het hele Live Anywhere gebeuren. Was die niet representatief genoeg (meer) of is men gewoon weer eens vergeten de zoekfunctie te gebruiken ?

Live Anywhere is niet hetzelfde als Games for Windows maar goed deze thread gaat inderdaad over Live Anywhere dus kan deze dicht
