Nee kan je instellen in je dashboard :)

    Hier ik paste wat zooi:

    -------------------

    Pal en 60hz info enzo

    1) The Xbox renders screen size bigger than the visible area of NTSC or PAL screens. By default therefore all games on Xbox will be full screen regardless of which TV standard they're played on or the quality of conversion between systems. It is impossible to have borders on any Xbox game unless they are actually desired by the programmers.

    2) The Xbox has a 60Hz mode built in to its dashboard. Selecting this mode will run games in 60Hz mode. All games will have a 60 Hz mode.

 It is theoretically possible for developers to choose to lock out PAL gamers from the 60 Hz mode. If they do this it's because they have spent time ensuring that the PAL version is of better quality than the 60Hz version. I am so far unaware of any instance in which this lockout has been applied (see later)

    4) Widescreen support is included at developers' choice. Halo does not support true widescreen format in any of its release versions.

Some facts about PAL and NTSC signals

A 60Hz mode is no more, no less the option for the console to produce a true NTSC signal output (the TV standard used in America and Japan). Most good quality TVs manufactured over the past couple of years can accept this signal and display it full screen.
    <br>
The PAL TV system (the European standard) is more technologically advanced, has a higher definition than NTSC and is universally regarded as giving a better picture.

One of the reasons that PAL is a superior system to NTSC is that it uses more information to make a full picture. To give a PAL signal, therefore, a games console has to work harder than it does for NTSC

Following on from this, the lazy way to convert a game from NTSC was to run it with borders - the borders representing the 'extra' screen content that the console would otherwise have to fill in on the screen.

The alternative would be to use some of the console's power to fill in the borders to produce a full screen picture at the expense of the game's frame rate.

Like it or not, PAL is a better TV system that requires consoles to work harder to produce a full-screen game than it does running an NTSC version. The quality of the finished PAL game is therefore a trade-off between the screen size/resolution and frame rate. It is also heavily dependent on the skill and committment of the coders making the conversion. Skillful coders can achieve full screen with no loss of quality, others can't.

So what does all this mean for European Xbox gamers

Firstly - with reference to point 1 - the headline news is that NO XBOX GAMES WILL RUN WITH BORDERS regardless of which PAL mode is used to run them. And remember - this isn't a quality of conversion promise - it's actally impossible to have borders

Secondly - all Xbox games will come with a 60Hz mode. You can be absolutely certain that you're playing a game at the same speed with the same picture as Japanese and American gamers if you select the 60Hz mode and your TV is compatible.

Thirdly - from what we've seen of the dedicated PAL conversions so far - particularly Halo - it seems that Microsoft are extremely committed to the European market. The office opinion here is that PAL Halo runs faster than its NTSC counterpart with no drop in frame-rate.
It could be the case that PAL gamers - enjoying a superior TV system as they do - actually get the best versions of games available.

In my opinion for a console to survive it needs to prosper in at least two of the three major markets - Japan, North America and Europe. As a US not Japanese console, Microsoft are always going to have a challenging time of it in Japan. As a result, Europe is going to be far more important to them than it ever has been to Sega, Sony or Nintendo.
Ensuring good PAL conversions and universal 60Hz compatibility, therefore, is a higher priority than it ever has been for any of the Japanese format-holders.

My suspicion with the recent negative rumours flying about is that they're started and maintained by people with an anti-Xbox agenda. Their 'loyalty' is sweetly naive but misguided and ultimately pretty stupid. True gamers want great games and more of them. The more successful consoles there are, the more great games there will be. Seems simple enough to me...
