How to install an 80mm Round Cathode Ring into your XBox. thx to Pimpboy OK Firstly you need to remove the center jewel (Green xbox badge) To do this I opened the case and removed the metal heat guard Then I melted the center circle with a hot knife (could use soldering iron), this melts through the plastic until you reach the green logo (back of) this doesn't melt as its harder plastic. I made a shape like an orange (circle with segments) then carefully prized the pieces up and snapped them off. Then slowly push the badge out from the back. Hij gaat er dan zo af Once out I sanded the green off with coarse sandpaper until all the green had gone. I then removed the deep scratches with 1000 grade sandpaper (wet & dry). There were still light scratches so I then used a polishing attachment in a Dremel with some T-Cut. This made the badge come up like glass! OK So now I had a nice clear badge but a messy hole where it used to be. So I used a knife sharpening attachment in a Dremel to smooth out the center ring. PS Leave 1/8" so the ring can sit back on. Then the fun part.... I used the following: Light ring, Knife, Screwdriver and a bit of electricians tape. Firstly remove screws from xbox (4 corners and 2 under silver stickers) Then unscrew the switch from the Metal PCI mount Then connect the power plug to the HDD plug and tape neatly. Next turn the switch to ON and tape to the existing wire neatly. OK now cut 4 small pieces of the velcro tape that cam supplied. Stick the tape to the 4 corners of the ring and stick to the inside of the xbox lid. Next Use the rest of the Velcro tape and stick the inverter to the back of the metal case (Behind the DVD) like so. Screw it all back together and hey presto a superb neon glow from the jewel ) PS You will not be able to reinstall the metal heat shield which is ok as mines actually running a lower temperature! you can use some mirror window film to go behind the badge on the inside so you cant see the HDD and it also helps to reflect the light out. That's all folks...what can I say, a great mod for all XBox fans... Thanks to Luke for supplying the pictures and instructions.
