According to FGN, Peter Main, Executive Vice President of Nintendo, will be retiring shortly after the launch of their GameCube console. Effective as of Jan, 31, 2002, Peter has decided to end his 15 years of employment with Nintendo. As of February 1, 2002, Peter MacDougall, the current president of Nintendo of Canada, will take over the reign of Executive VP. "Peter's unique qualifications make him ideally suited for this job," said Minoru Arakawa, president, Nintendo of America Inc. "His breadth of success is a distinct asset given the global nature of Nintendo's business." No details were given about the reasons behind Peter's decision to retire, which seems to come at a strange time due to the launch of the GameCube this fall. Whether or not this will have any effect on the launch of the GameCube doesn't appear to be an issue right now. Peter Main was behind quite a bit of the anti-Xbox talk going around recently. Previously Peter had made negative comments regarding the Xbox and its chances of success in the industry.
