Fans of the television program may enjoy the thrill of building their own bot, and with a price of around £40 as opposed to a whopping £400+ for the real thing, this may fill a hole in their roboteering psyche. There are numerous variations which you can use to adapt your own little robot, but the main problem is that the game just doesn’t give you enough cash early on to buy anything of much use and the components offered mean that your bot is very basic and will be inevitably thrashed in the wars. For those who are not fans of the show and have little interest in the intricacies of electric drives, fibre glass chassis and pneumatic axes, this is one game that should be avoided. The lifespan to a non fan is almost non existent, the clunky control method, annoying camera and irritating commentator go little way in making a playable RC game, and a long way in making an unwieldy mess. Although the commentary is provided by Jonathan Pearce (the real voice of the TV series), this does nothing to improve the annoying comments which don’t always seem to fit with the scene you’re viewing. The Robot Wars tune playing in the background is slightly irritating after a while also.

As a fan of the television show, I was really hoping for something with a little bit more substance than what Robot Wars: Extreme Destruction offers. Sure, you can build bots, play against some of the more infamous bots from the show and also pit yourself against the mighty house bots, but when you seem to be constantly at a disadvantage in comparison to the other bots, there really seems little point. I don’t think this is the kind of game that will get you whooping with delight and enjoying every gameplaying moment. If anything, you’ll probably find yourself frustrated and bored within a short period of time.
