Sunset Overdrive's world, energy drink detailed on teaser site
Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games provided a glimpse into the Xbox One-exclusive open-world action title today with a website for
OverCharge Delirium XT, an energy drink that exists in the game's universe.
According to the website, OverCharge is manufactured by Fizzco, a beverage company that was founded in 2007 by Rupert F. Kane and made a smash with UNTZ. It's the world's most popular drink, with more than 20 billion cans consumed every day. Fizzco's plan is to "revolutionize the liquid industry once again" with OverCharge, which gets its kick from an infusion of "xtremophiles."
The OverCharge site features some information about other corporations and locations in Sunset Overdrive's Sunset City. That includes companies such as the Agua Mofeta Brewery (the name is Spanish for "skunk water"), the Sasquatch and Friends Family Fun Center (a low-rent Chuck E. Cheese's) and the fast-food chain SexBurger, and attractions like The Content Channel ("who doesn't love consuming content?") and the amusement park WonderTown Land.
In addition, six members of Sunset Overdrive's cast of characters appear on the site. There's the affable Fizzco executive Chet Fisher; the right-wing naturalist Buck National, host of Buck National vs. The Animal Kingdom; Wendy Tarth, the last living blacksmith; Arnold Renner, mayor of Sunset City; Troop Master Bryllcream, a nature expert; and Red Caboose Reggie, the town's resident hobo.
Fizzco's mascot, Fizzie, is inviting fans to try OverCharge at four gaming conventions over the next few months: E3 in Los Angeles on June 9; Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 24; Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, on Aug. 13; and PAX Prime in Seattle on Aug. 30. It's unclear if Sunset Overdrive itself will be playable as well. The Xbox One exclusive is set for release later this year.
