Ik kwam dit tegen op internet, het is van een xboxer die tekki gekocht heeft. Dit is niet van een officieel blad of site maar puur van een thuis gebruiker. Het is in het engels! ;)

Okay, I've got it (came out yesterday, I guess in the retail stores here in Japan)... Tekki, that is...

I hadn't bought an Xbox game for awhile , so I figured I'd splurge and plop down around 17,500 Yen. Roughly $150...

The controller IS massive, as you have seen, coming in a huge green box that looks like an ammo box. There is some assembly required, as it comes in three sections all connected with an IDE cable and some screws and plastic covers.

The feel of the thing is not what I was expecting... it's feels a little... cheap. All the buttons work and flash, which is cool, but the joystick on the right (for aiming) doesn't have a spring-loaded return to center. The gear shift is also pretty cheap feeling as well. Still, it's fairly acceptable, just not what you "want" it to be. The pedals are nice and better than most racing wheel pedals. They have good weight and won't move during play... but the DO give a surprising amount of resistance. You can wear your legs out with these things.

You get a little pumped up when you start playing (BTW there is English AND Japanese, but all the briefings and things are in Japanese, so you may want to wait for the English version to trully understand what's going on). Start up your VT (vertical tank) is cool enough, hitting switches in the right order is a must, but never hard at all... almost too easy. When your controller lights up with ignition is very exciting though.

You get "right to business" when the game starts up, and the controls are surprisingly intuitive (for the most part). You quicly dispatch with a couple of enemy mechs, and that mission is over. Graphics are very good, and have a nice feel. I have a 27" TV and would NOT suggest playing it on anything smaller. This game is MADE for bigscreens. You can barely read the writing on the gauges on my TV.

After each mission you can watch a reply at preset reply angles. Some are sattelite views, but most are views from various cameras placed on your VT. The replays are very nice and show off the graphics nicely.

I haven't actually played too much, and doubt I will unfortunately. It not that it's a bad game, but my set up for where I play is just not suitable for the controller (I had to use it on my lap... not good). People who like this sort of thing will REALLY like this sort of thing... I just kind of do (my thing is sports games).

    Misschien iets nieuws!!

    [Steel Battalion in November
    posted: 09.19.02.

Capcom Entertainment today announced Steel Battalion, an exciting battle-mech simulator exclusively for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft. Using the most elaborate controller interface ever created, players take a seat inside the cockpit of a mechanized VT (Vertical Tank) and enter into futuristic military warfare. Players pilot 20 different mechs over the course of the game while participating in a multinational task force operation to over throw the government. Ultra realistic visual effects and mech battles in a first-person perspective create the ultimate mechanized military warfare experience. Steel Battalion is scheduled to release in North America this November and will sell at the suggested retail price of $199.95. The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rating is pending.
An exclusive 40-button controller has been designed to completely maximize the gaming experience and immerse the player into the role of a Vertical Tank pilot. With trigger buttons to fire weapons; foot pedals to accelerate, boost and brake; levers to shift gears and move left to right, gamers must utilize the full potential of their VT’s abilities in order to survive on the battlefield. Mastering the controls of this tactical vehicle will allow players to feel as if the VT is part of their own body.

“The power and performance of the Xbox hardware really makes Steel Battalion possible,” said Robert Lindsey, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “Steel Battalion is a video game unlike any other in that the special 40-button controller really makes your feel as if you are piloting a mechanized Vertical Tank. Gamers haven’t experienced anything like this before.”

Steel Battalion players operate a strategic battle mech weapon through 12 action-packed levels, fending off dozens of adversaries while attempting to diffuse a riot that has ensued on a Pacific island ruled by a military dictatorship. Unlocking new missions, maps and enemy robots once the game is completed provides endless entertainment. With a diverse arsenal at the player’s disposal, including plasma torches and a MK21-6 twin pod rocket launch, there will be plenty of action to go around.

Steel Battalion boasts the following features:

Control your VT with an exclusive 40-button simulation controller designed and produced for Steel Battalion.
First-person perspective view lets players participate in the action through the cockpit of your mech.
Control a Vertical Tank (VT) which features a variety of weapons such as plasma torches, a 270mm rifle, a MK21-6 twin pod rocket launch, and much more. Choose from multiple models of VT’s including the Behemoth, Decider and the Falchion.
Twelve intense action-packed levels. Unlock new missions, maps and enemy robots once the game is completed to provide endless action and entertainment.
Steel Battalion will make full use of the Xbox hardware in order to create ultra realistic visual effects and realistic mech battles.
