Interisti face lengthy bans
Reports in Italy are suggesting that the Inter players primarily involved in the Valencia brawl could be banned from all competition for up to four months.
Nicolas Burdisso, Ivan Cordoba and Douglas Maicon were all charged by UEFA in the aftermath of the bust-up which followed their Champions League tie, along with opponents Carlos Marchena and David Navarro.
The latter punched Burdisso just seconds after the final whistle which broke his nose and sparked a huge scuffle, on and off the pitch, between players and officials from both sides.
UEFA’s disciplinary board will look into the events at a specially arranged hearing on Wednesday and reports suggest that the punishment requested for the players involved will be tough.
The disciplinary board are set to ask for a 10-month ban for Navarro and a four-month ban for Burdisso, Marchena and Maicon, whereas Cordoba might be suspended for two months.
The penalties could be extended to the players’ respective national Leagues, as the prosecutor will allegedly ask for the sanctions to be recognised by FIFA.
