Let me tell you a story of playing Madden NFL. It’s 3rd and 10, and I’m down 14-7 against my buddy over XBL. He’s a pretty conservative player, so I know he’ll sit his safeties back a bit and stay with man coverage on my outside receivers. I’m going to try and send my slot WR on a deep fly to clear the safety out, and hit my #1 WR on a Deep In. I saw Kurt Warner and the Rams with their greatest show on turf make this look easy week after week in the late 90’s! So I take the snap and analyze the situation quickly – no blitz, and the safeties are dropping out…money. I wish I was better at going through progressions, but I’m not - I’m pretty much watching my #1 WR all the way. He’s just coming out of his break on the deep in, and he’s got at least 2 steps on the defender trailing him in man coverage. I fire it in there, a perfect bullet pass where I think only he can catch it. Right before the ball gets to him the DB turns around and in one quick motion steps in front, picks it off, and is headed back the other way. HUH? THE DB NEVER EVEN SAW THE BALL!

It is my pleasure to introduce Madden’s newest piece of technology, one that is also shared within many of the EA SPORTS games, called Procedural Awareness. What is it? We’ll you’ve likely heard of “head tracking” with IK. If you haven’t, it’s a way to turn the players head around to face a target dynamically, without the need for canned animations. Well, think of Procedural Awareness (PA for short) as the “next-gen” version of head tracking. Since it is so early in the year, unfortunately I can’t show you any videos of it running in the game.

"Layered blending? I thought you were going to talk about quarterbacks?" You'll see shortly how this works for QB's. First, a quick lesson on what blending is. Anytime a player transitions from one animation to another, he will use a 'blend' of his previous animation into the next animation. When you don't have a nice smooth blend, you'll get poppy / hitching animations. If you make blends that are too long, you can easily not have the correct amount of control over your player (he can feel very 'sluggish' or unresponsive). The most common types of blends are linear, ease in, and ease out. Those just refer to how many frames of either the previous or current animation you use while blending. For Madden NFL 10 though, we've added something new - the ability to actually separate the blends out between different parts of the body. We call this layered blending because it allows us to create different layered animation by blending one part of the body out quicker or slower based on the needs of the game. So how does it relate to QB's? Well, how often has this happened to you?

Our next big change for the QB position was the addition of some new ratings. For countless years we've basically had Throw Power, Throw Accuracy, and Awareness as the only ratings for the QB position, so it's very hard to differentiate the players correctly and have them perform more like their real-life counterparts with just those few. For example, a superstar like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning would previously have a very high Throw Accuracy rating like a 98, well that had to be the case for a 5 yard screen or a 65 yard heave! Here are our new ratings:
1. Deep Ball Accuracy: Determines the accuracy on deep passes (streaks, deep posts, etc)
2. Medium Passing Accuracy: Determines the accuracy on medium passes (outs, corners, etc)
3. Short Passing Accuracy: Determines the accuracy on short passes (quick smash, flats, etc)
4. Throw on the Run: Creates a modifier to accuracy when the QB is throwing on the run. Every QB will take some sort of accuracy hit when throwing on the run, but a QB that has a high rating here will take a smaller hit.
5. Play Action: Determines the 'effectiveness' of Play Action for a QB, i.e. how often they can fake out or freeze the defense (which is obviously weighted against the defenders Play Recognition ratings)

Over the course of the years, Madden has increased the speed of specific animations (and sets of animations) here and there across many areas. Typically, these are put in place to fix small bugs like times where maybe a handoff won't match up, or a situation where maybe the user doesn't have enough control. However, these small little changes can actually manifest upon themselves and end up causing pretty big issues in the game. VERY early in the cycle (like August) we committed to remove all these arbitrary speed alterations for Madden NFL 10, and truly fix the root issues that they were put in place to handle.

QB Dropback Animation Change

Another great example of how a relatively small speed alteration can blow up into a bigger issue is the speed of the QB dropback. The QB drop was initially sped up because he was getting 'sucked' into sacks too easily if he took a normal dropback speed. This has been discussed often on the forums...though only the QB drop is altered to play faster, with the QB being set up too quickly the timing of the routes cease to have as much importance, the blockers can't correctly form a pocket around you (since the DL are barely out of their stances while the QB is already set), and the passing game now has turned into a very unrealistic representation of the real sport. Well thanks to our new blending technology, and all the time spent tuning the tolerances/distances for sack animations to trigger, we no longer have to worry about speeding the QB up to successfully get a play off.

First Madden 10 Details

February 3, 2009 - EA Sports announced the first new piece to the Madden gameplay model via a developer blog. In a post that claims that community feedback will have more influence on the development of Madden than ever before, Ian Cummings, Lead Designer on Madden NFL 10, details some of the capabilities of "Procedural Awareness." Yes, we think it sounds like something out of Skynet too.

Apparently, Procedural Awareness (PA) allows developers to increase the overall realism of Madden's football by implementing lifelike behaviors such as eye tracking from the quarterback to different receivers and defensive backs actually seeing incoming passes before making a play on them. Beyond that, PA allows for the conveyance of emotions through different facial movements and contortions.

EA Sports released three tech demos of the technology at work which we'll be posting on IGN shortly. One shows the quarterback shifting his head to follow a giant green ball; one has a Dwayne Wade player model torso working with PA; and finally there's a generic player model acting out some emotions.

Madden NFL 10: Online Franchise and Elite Status
We give our final thoughts on gameplay and details on two new features.

July 23, 2009 - After you sit down and play Madden for several hours the way I have, the amount of content that has been added to this year's game really becomes evident. While the new features may not be perfect, EA Sports seems to have done a better job in listening to their fans and delivering content they want than what we've seen from the sports conglomerate in the past. In Madden NFL 10 you'll find online co-op, online franchise, a boatload of new broadcast presentation styles, some great gameplay refinements, and something called Elite Status for the truly hardcore Madden player (more details on this on page 2.)

To kick things off, let's talk about gameplay. As I'm sure you've heard by now, this is the slowest moving Madden in quite a long time. I'm not talking about framerates, nor is this a knock of any kind on the game. Rather the overall speed has been reduced by 5% so it's more in line with what we see from actual NFL players. This – believe it or not – has a huge impact on what happens on the field. I found that holes in the offensive line are easier to spot and hit, tacklers easier to juke, and the finite movements in animations that might have been lost in the frenetic pace of past games can now be seen in detail.

I've also noticed that passing the ball is a bit more of a challenge than it has been in prior Madden titles. Quick out routes are no longer a sure thing as defensive backs now jump on routes without hesitation and effectively jam your receivers on the line when starting their routes. There have been countless times when I expected to see a tight end running a drag route across the field, only to look back and see that he's still grappling with a defensive lineman. Five-yard bump rule be damned!

One of the most important changes that I could see on the offensive side of the ball was the new juking. Jukes in this year's game look much more realistic than they have in the past. It's no longer a hop-step that would be impossible in real life when sprinting at the speeds you see in the NFL. Instead, in Madden NFL 10 you'll see running backs actually fake one direction and move in another, just like in real life. The end-result, when timed properly, is a defender quite literally winding up on his ass.

On defense things are a bit more traditional with one notable change. This year, when grappling with an offensive lineman as a DB, linebacker or defensive lineman, all of your special moves are linked to the right analog stick. You'll now be able to make bull rushes, swim moves and slide under a block with different directions on the right analog. You'll also be able to send defenders on a Hook Zone anywhere on the field and the Deep Zone hot route will send a defender straight back into deep zone (shocking, I know) coverage.

While those aren't all of the changes that have been made to the gameplay side of Madden NFL 10, they are what I view to be the most important. Some might argue that being able to use the right stick to slide in the pocket while playing as the quarterback or Fight for the Fumble should've been included. I disagree.

Next we're going to talk about two new features to the Madden series: online franchise and the ability called Elite Status.

First, let's go with the feature that's likely totally new to most reading this. It's called Elite Status and it's sure to start a tizzy on the forums once people read the words "Pay DLC" attached to it. But never fear, it's totally optional and should only be considered as a viable purchase by the truly hardcore Madden fans out there. It costs five bucks (400 points on XBL) and it unlocks what is essentially a VIP online world.

This exclusive club of sorts gets you into the Elite online community and you'll get your own private lobbies and private leaderboards. Beyond that, EA Sports is planning on allowing for some sort of avenue for these hardcore fans to easily communicate with the Madden development team. Beyond that, Elite players will also be the only ones in the Madden online world that will be able to play a ranked match on the All-Madden difficulty setting. The standard ranked match difficulty setting of All-Pro will still be available, but these hardcore fans can take the game to the next level. As an added bonus, the players who pay for the DLC will have their online name colored in gold so everyone in the lobby will know when an elitist enters the room.

It's important to remember that Elite Status is a totally optional five-dollar download. There's no reason to make the investment unless you're being bombarded with cheaters and find yourself wanting a more faithful online experience. Or if you're 12 and really just want that gold plate on your gamertag.

Last, but not least, is online franchise. It's a feature that's touted in the game as being "the future" for the Madden series. With the amount of connectivity that the free-of-charge mode provides, you can understand why. Players will be able to set their depth chart, check their schedule, make trades and even draft through their internet connection on their computer. Yes, you can start a franchise with a fantasy draft. All of this is run through EA Sports World and the changes you make will be reflected on your console within moments. It's pretty cool. The only thing that's missing from the online interaction is the ability for the commissioner of the franchise to advance the week, thus simulating all uncompleted games on the schedule.

There's also an iPhone app which will also be free to download and use. The app allows you to do a slightly limited version of what's available on your computer, but instead it's at your fingertips with your fancy Apple device. You'll be able to check your schedule, check box scores for games that have already happened, and get stats for individual players in your league. You'll also be able to make trades, switch around your depth chart and post and check on your message board. The only thing that's left off the list is drafting incoming rookies into your franchise. Deal with it, iPhone lover.

I had no issue signing up for my online franchise and immediately hopping into the league that had been setup by EA Sports. It took all of ten seconds to enter my activation code (which every new copy of Madden will ship with), enter my first and last name, and hop in to look around the league. The only problem I ran into had to do with the fact that only four human players were a part of my league. Since I hadn't scheduled a time to play, the Jaguars vs. Cardinals matchup that was staring me in the face would have to wait. My understanding is that once you hop into a game in Online Franchise Mode you'll get an identical experience as in a regular matchup on XBL or PSN.

Our Madden Week will conclude tomorrow with a look ahead to the real NFL season using the technology in Madden NFL 10. The next entry in the only pro football series around is scheduled to hit stores on August 14 for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, iPhone and Wii.

Persoonlijk kijk ik hier echt heel erg naar uit na de teleurstellende madden 09.
Zo te zien zijn een groot aantal ergenissen uit de voorgaande delen opgelost, wat natuurlijk altijd een goed teken is.
Na het spelen van de demo kan ik echt niet wachten op deze game!

De demo is momenteel te downloaden op de US Marketplace. ik verwacht dat hij eerdaags ook wel naar onze marketplace zal komen.

Dat zeker, en ook de animaties zien er geweldig en realistisch uit. Dat was altijd wel een probleem met madden alleen zo te zien hebben ze zich dit jaar overtroffen!

Original: Though GameStop yesterday announced that it was offering an "exclusive demo" of Madden NFL 10 as a pre-order incentive, publisher Electronic Arts has informed Shacknews that a downloadable demo will be available to the public as well.

"We will also be issuing a demo via Xbox LIVE and PSN that features the Giants vs. Cowboys with 2 minute quarters," the company told us. "The GameStop demo is exclusive in terms of content. For example, the GameStop exclusive demo features a rematch of Super Bowl XLIII featuring the Steelers vs. Cardinals with 5 minute quarters."

We're checking in to see when the public demo will be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The GameStop exclusive demo is expected "by the end of July."

The full version of the football game--in development for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PSP--arrives in North American retailers on Friday, August 14.

Update: The general Madden NFL 10 demo is slated for "late July," EA has clarified. We're also told that the public Giants vs. Cowboys demo will sport 1 minute quarters, not the previously reported 2 minute quarters, with the company apologizing for the confusion.

goed Bezig zit nu op mn iPod dus downloaden gaat moeilijk.
zal m zo maar ff downloaden.
zal het ook werken door het op een harde schijf te zetten en die dan op de xbox aansluiten?

update: Hij werkt niet die link

update#2: je kan dus niet naar de direct download zelf gelinkt worden. maar als je de zoekfunctie gebruikt, dan kan je m wel vinden.

update#3: Via een HHD werkt het dus niet. via de site staat uitgelegd hoe je m goed op dvd kan krijgen en kan spelen.
alleen beetje jammer dat als je m op dvd gebrand hebt dat ie dan alsnog niet werkt

Ik heb m helemaal gebrand met datzelfde programma zoals ze dat daar aangeven. heb zelfs dat zelfde programma gebruikt. Mn xbox herkent de demo alleen als ik wil gaan spelen geeft ie aan dat de disc het niet doet en dat ik m schoon moet maken en mn xbox moet restarten. beide heb ik al 10 keer gedaan maar het werkt helaas niet.

Ik heb het via mn USB externe (pc) harde schijf geprobeerd. dat werkte alleen niet helaas. EN zo'n migration kabel heb ik ook niet.

en zo staat hij er ook op. ook heeft dat brand programma aangegeven dat het branden gewoon gelukt is.
Ga het zo nog een keer proberen en dan zet ik hem op max X2

downloaden via je internet browser zelf. gaat veel sneller heb ik gemerkt.

Mijn bevindingen tot nu toe:

-passen werkt erg stroef maar voelt lekker realistisch aan
-blitzen heeft weer nut!
-animaties zijn ge-wel-dig
-runnen is lekker lastig maar zeker niet not-done zoals in 09
-het aangaan van blocks en swim/rib moves gaat nu via de rechter thumbstick en werkt goed en voelt lekker aan
-offense spelen is een stuk moeilijker (t.o.v 09)
-defense spelen makkelijker(t.o.v 09)
-Hitstick is goed uitgewerkt. Als je m nu verkeerd timed word je echt afgestraft. waar je in 09 5 yards v/d BC(ballcarier) al je hitstick in kon zetten zou je nu kei hard gras happen
-de playclock gaat iets te snel. kan me voorstellen dat je dit als leek irritant vind
-De sfeer v/d wedstrijd en alles wat eromheen gebeurt is geweldig.
-Als je Qb tijdens een passplay onder veel druk komt te staan gaat je controller trillen. werkt echt fijn waardoor het spel overzichterlijker word
-Het playcallen is weer zoals het voor de next gen was. je kiest nu je plays door uit een sheet van 3 plays op de knop te drukken van welke play je wilt. Dit maakt multiplayer(met zn 2e op de bank) weer leuk.

al met al ben ik zeer tevreden over deze game. Je hebt eindelijk het gevoel dat ze weer vooruitgang hebben geboekt. Wat bij de voorgaande 3 delen erg tegen viel.

Heb zelf niet echt veel moeite gehad met mijn passing game. Je timing moet gewoon goed zijn wanneer je receivers uit in cut komen of wanneer ze net tussen de zones lopen. Gelukkig was het na ff 2 a 3 drives weer goed met mijn timing dus vandaar had ik geen stroevige gevoel. Ben wel eens dat het erg goed/realistisch aanvoelt

-blitzen heeft weer nut!

Ja! hiermee was ik telleurgesteld in 09. Ik ben namelijk een liefhebber van een aggressieve defense a'la Eagles of Steelers. Ben blij dat dit dus goed gedaan is dit keer

-runnen is lekker lastig maar zeker niet not-done zoals in 09

Net zoals de passing game vond ik de running game niet echt lastig. Je moet gewoon ff wennen aan de timing etc. Ook dit is weer een stuk realistischer gedaan kwa animatie's vooral bij de broken tackles en de team tackles

-het aangaan van blocks en swim/rib moves gaat nu via de rechter thumbstick en werkt goed en voelt lekker aan

Dit vind ik veel lekkerder en vloeiender werken dan met de LB/RB knoppen. Lijkt wel alsof het nu makkelijker is om met hiermee met een Linemen een QB te sacken. Soms lijkt het net alsof de O-line maar zit te slapen(kan ook aan de moeilijksheidgraad liggen, heb nog niet op all madden gespeeld)

-animaties zijn ge-wel-dig

Mee eens! Team tackles, broken tackles, manier hoe ze getackled worden(ziet echt de strijd voor elke yard) etc etc allemaal schitterent!!

-offense spelen is een stuk moeilijker (t.o.v 09)
-defense spelen makkelijker(t.o.v 09)

De 2 bovenstaande heb ik zelf nog niet gemerkt. Komt wel wanneer ik op all madden ga spelen. Denk dat je dan pas de echte verschillen ziet

-De sfeer v/d wedstrijd en alles wat eromheen gebeurt is geweldig.
Alhoewel ik dit minder belangrijk vind is het zeer indrukwekkend gedaan. Vind wel dat hierdoor de laadtijden wel iets te lang duren

-Als je Qb tijdens een passplay onder veel druk komt te staan gaat je controller trillen. werkt echt fijn waardoor het spel overzichterlijker word

Of het overzichtelijk werkt weet ik niet althans dat gevoel had ik niet. Het brengt wel een stukje extra spanning en spelbeleving met zich mee, zeker niet ongewenst

-Het playcallen is weer zoals het voor de next gen was. je kiest nu je plays door uit een sheet van 3 plays op de knop te drukken van welke play je wilt. Dit maakt multiplayer(met zn 2e op de bank) weer leuk.

Mee eens, maakt het local multi playeren weer wat spannender.

al met al ben ik zeer tevreden over deze game. Je hebt eindelijk het gevoel dat ze weer vooruitgang hebben geboekt. Wat bij de voorgaande 3 delen erg tegen viel.

Heb even mijn ondervindingen onder de jouwe gezet. Ben het meerendeels met je eens. De demo heeft me gerust gesteld, ik ga madden 10 zeker halen. Het stukje realisme wat terug is samen met de schitterende animatie's hebben het voor mij gedaan Team tackle's FTW!!

Ik zeg niet dat ik moeite heb met de passing game alleen dat het voelt zodra je op de pass knop drukt dat de ball heel moeizaam weg gaat.

Net zoals de passing game vond ik de running game niet echt lastig. Je moet gewoon ff wennen aan de timing etc. Ook dit is weer een stuk realistischer gedaan kwa animatie's vooral bij de broken tackles en de team tackles

Ik bedoel hiermee dat het niet meer zoals in 08 is dat je bijna elke run wel 7 tot 90 yards kan halen. Zoals je al aangeeft en de slogan voor deze madden is, je moet echt voor elke yard vechten. Dit geeft alleen maar een goed gevoel als je er een van 20 yards breakt.

Ah ok, Idd zodra je 1 big play heb lijkt het net alsof je al gewonnen heb bij wijze van spreken.

De Defensive AI lijkt daarin een grote rol te spelen, die is enorm verbeterd. CB/Safety's zijn hun man niet zomaar kwijt of laten geen groot gat tussen hun en de receiver komen.

Ook lijkt het alsof stats van de players nu eindelijk merkbaar zijn. In 09 had je dat alleen bij offensive stars zoals Terrel Owen, Jacobs etc etc. Nu lijkt het IMO dat de defensive stars beter tacklen/coveren in vergelijking met wat mindere verdedigers. Bijvoorbeeld als ik tackle met polamalu of Harrison word de tackle niet tot minder vaak gebroken dan wanneer ik met een andere speler tackle.

Vandaag kan ik hopelijk wat meer spelen

jup. AI v/d D# is echt stukken beter. je hebt nu niet meer dat een speler gewoon naar de bal staat te kijken als die naar m gegooid word. hij probeert er echt een play op te maken.

Was in 09 ook zo'n ergernis. je had bepaalde patronen waar de WR gewoon al en altijd vrij kwam, zoals de Curl, Slants en Down & in/out.

Wat me aan de offensive side v/d ball is opgevallen is dat sommige patronen weer eindelijk werken. zoals de corner en de barrel. Die hoefde je in 09 echt niet te proberen want als er tight coverage is dan werd de ball altijd geswat.

Weetje toevallig de EU release date? Ik neem aan dat ie wat later is dan 14 augustus(US Release date) zoals altijd.

enigste nadeel wat ik tot nu toe kan bedenken is dat de laadtijden zo lang zijn...

edit: Heb de achievements aan de openingspost toegevoegd.

Wat me ook is opgevallen is dat er ook eindelijk weer nieuwe plays in de playbooken staan.

Denk idd dat het tussen de 20 en 30 augustus gaat worden. Ben nu een beetje de bekende webshops aan het afgaan om te kijken of ie ergens voor een mooi prijsje is te krijgen, alleen ik ben m nog nergens tegen gekomen. Denk dat ik m maar bij Gamemania pre-order.
