PlayStation Plus Explained

Hi Guys, just wanted to send you a second post on the details of PlayStation Plus and to clear up some of the confusion/answer some of the questions you have raised around the previous post. Apologies for the length but there is a lot to cover!

PlayStation Plus

Ok, here are the basics of the new premium subscription service, PlayStation Plus:

* Launching on the 29th June
* The current PSN features will remain free. We are still very committed to PSN as a free gaming service and are certainly not planning on reducing this service following the launch of PlayStation Plus.
* Plus is an evolving service and the features included at launch will be:
o Games
o Discounts
o Exclusive items on PlayStation Store
o Full Game Trial
o Automatic Downloads
(More info on these below)
* Membership to Plus can be purchased through PlayStation Store on PS3 for either 90 days or a whole year (365 days)
* Local prices for membership can be found below, payment is a one off fee for either of the memberships and can be purchased with any of the current Store payment methods – Credit Card or PSN Cards
* If you sign up between the 29th June and 3rd Aug for the 1 year subscription then you will also receive a downloadable copy of the original LittleBigPlanet game for PS3, completely free! This is yours to keep and is not tied to the period of subscription

Here are the features in more detail –

Games & Special Offers: As a member you can expect to get your hands on at least 4 games a month at no extra charge. Each month there will be a selection of 1x PSN game, 2x minis and 1x PS One classics. A list of the games available in month 1 and 2 can be found below. You will be able to download these games during the month they are available, until the new selection replaces these.

Once downloaded, these games are yours to keep and play as long as you are a member of PlayStation Plus. If your subscription lapses and then you re-subscribe the games you have already downloaded will reactivate, so you still have access to them. Additionally, if you delete one of these titles from your PS3 but decide you want to get it back then you can re-download from the Plus section of the Store if the games is still there, or, if the game has expired from the Plus section of the Store, then you can simply search for it on the Store and download it again at no extra cost.

Each month there will be 2 dynamic themes, 2 premium avatars and premium game elements/add-ons for you to download and many of these will be exclusive to members only. These are yours to keep forever once you have downloaded them.

Plus members will also be given exclusive PlayStation Store discounts each month that are above and beyond the current Store discounts available to everyone. These discounts will range from 20% – 50% and anything you buy with these is yours to keep and enjoy forever.

Finally, wherever possible we’ll be making sure that members are included in some selected demos and beta trials early, before they go live to everyone, so you can be the one to tell all your mates about the next big game they ‘must’ get.

As I mentioned, just the games themes and avatars are worth over £200* a year and with unrestricted access to 48+ games each year and all the other features, we think this service is great value for money.

Full Game Trial: Each month we will be offering members the chance to download 2 full games, try them out for a period of time (1 hour unless otherwise stated). Then you will have the choice to either buy the game and carry on from where you left off, or delete the game from your hard drive. This is a unique way to trial the full game experience and means you don’t have to be restricted to certain levels/game modes when you test out a game.

The games in full game trail will become available to all Store users to purchase but only Plus members will have the chance to ‘try before you buy’.

The other great thing about this feature is that you can continue from where you were at the end of the trial period if you decide to buy the game. All game saves and trophies earned during the trial will be unlocked and will show up on your trophy list and your trophy level, when you purchase the game. You don’t even have to re-download the game, just purchase and go back to the XMB to access the game.

Automatic Download: Members will be able to set their PS3 to wake up from standby at any time of the day or night, download and install any game updates for the games you have been playing and we will also send you new game demos that will be ready and waiting for you to play when you next use your PS3. System software updates will also download automatically (manual install still required) and then the PS3 will turn itself off again.

Game updates and demos will also automatically install and the next time you turn on your PS3 you will see a brief on screen message letting you know what has been downloaded and updated.

Some other answers to frequently asked questions from the last blog post -

* Cross-game chat is not currently included in PlayStation Plus.
* You need to be the master account holder on the PS3 and be over 18 to purchase a Plus membership but other accounts on that PS3 will be able to play the games you download for as long as you are a member.
* The 4 games you can download each month are yours to keep for as long as you are a member.
* Playstation Plus is for PS3 owners as membership can only be purchased on the PS3 Store. However, some of the content – minis and PSOne Classics – available each month will also be playable on your PSP if you have one. Download them on the PS3 and transfer to your PSP, or download directly from the PSP Store or Media Go for PSP.

PlayStation Plus is an evolving service and we have taken on board all your comments from the previous blog post. We will be looking into these and we also welcome any other suggestions you have.

Dus elke maand op z'n minst vier games. Geen cross-game chat met PSN+. Vraag me trouwens nog wel af of die korting van 20% t/m 50% voor alle content geldt, of alleen voor geselecteerde content....

Helaas geen korting op alle content, alleen door Sony geselecteerd spul. De meeste content die ze voor de eerste twee maanden hebben geselecteerd heb ik al in m'n bezit. Jammer dat ze met de lancering van een gloednieuwe dienst hoofdzakelijk oudere content aanbieden. Ik was erg enthousiast over PSN+, maar zoals het er nu naar uitziet wacht ik het nog wel even af.

Ik blijf het onzin vinden dat je de games die je krijgt niet mag behouden na het opzeggen van je abbo. Zelfs Microsoft is niet zo erg.

2e maand is niet zo interessant maar WipeoutHD in de 1e klinkt aantrekkelijk. Gratis LBP die je mag houden is ook lekker.

mja , wipeout en LBP kosten nu ook geen drol meer. Ik wil voor dat geld graag verbeteringen aan het netwerk en de functionaliteit zelf zien.

Bij de winkels waar ik vouchers heb gezien, waren ze allemaal 20 -, voor een 20 euro voucher. Hetzelfde geldt voor de 50 euro voucher. Niet vergeten dat je pas LBP krijgt als je een jaar abbo neemt .

Voor de mensen die geen tot weinig content uit de store hebben gekocht of net een PS3 hebben is het aanbod voor de eerste twee maanden incl. gratis digitaal exemplaar van LBP natuurlijk vrij aantrekkelijk. Mensen die de afgelopen drie jaar regelmatig content uit de store hebben gekocht spreek je op dit moment een stuk minder aan met de aangekondigde content. Deze mensen zijn volgens mij toch wel de grootste doelgroep die je een jaarlijks abonnement wil aansmeren. Ze bieden imo op het moment niets aan om deze mensen over de streep te trekken. Korting op door Sony geselecteerde content vind ik nog de grootste tegenvaller. Geef dan een kleinere korting op alle content i.p.v. alleen op je eigen games/dlc die je een boost wil geven omdat de verkoop is teruggelopen.

Dat je de games die ze weggeven niet meer kan gebruiken zodra je geen abonnement meer hebt is inderdaad minder, maar ik begrijp ook wel waarom Sony hiervoor heeft gekozen.

je betaalt er ook maar 4 euro per maand voor he

ik vind de service helemaal niet zo gek. Ik wacht nog even af, want qua prijs vind ik het dikke prima. Tis alleen dat ik moeilijk afscheid kan nemen van games en dat zou nu dan inhouden dat ik altijd lid moet blijven (wat ze natuurlijk ook willen)

Weet ik. Ik was dan ook van plan om maar direct voor een jaar lid te worden.

Ik heb nog nooit wat uit de store gekocht, dus zowat alles is interessant voor mij.

Firmware 3.40 & PSN+

Hi everyone, once again we’re adding new features to your PS3 via firmware update to continue to try and bring you the best entertainment experience possible. PS3 system software update (v3.40) is available available later today, adding the ability to purchase a PlayStation Plus subscription, improved connection between your PlayStation Network and Facebook accounts and more. Additionally, we’ll be launching system software update (v6.30) for the PSP system simultaneously with PS3 – v3.40 and adding PlayStation Plus compatibility for the people that own both a PS3 and PSP.

Here are a few highlights from the new PS3 firmware update (v3.40):

* PlayStation Plus: PSN users will be able to purchase membership to PlayStation Plus which is a new premium subscription service on PSN that lets you expand and enhance your gaming experience and enable you to gain an exclusive set of features and content. Don’t forget though, all PSN users will continue to have free access to PSN’s existing and brand new features while PlayStation Plus subscribers will also gain access to an exclusive set of gaming features, content and functionality.
o Games & Special Offers – access to great games every month worth over £200 a year, exclusive discount on PlayStation Store and early access to demos and beta trails.
o Exclusive Content – download and keep loads of new and exclusive premium avatars, dynamic themes and game add-ons.
o Full Game Trial – Try full games each month for a limited period before you decide whether to buy them.
o Automatic Download – Set your PS3 to automatically wake up, download and install all of your game updates, new game demos and even download the latest system software. All without you lifting a finger.
o Limited Special Offer – To celebrate the launch of PlayStation Plus we are also offering users the chance to get hold of LittleBigPlanet completely free. Simply sign up for a 1 year membership between now (29th) and the 3rd August 2010 and a downloadable copy of the award winning PS3 game is yours to keep forever.

* Photo Gallery: A new network based photo sharing feature is now available on the Photo Gallery. The enhancement allows you to upload, browse and comment on photos on Facebook and Picasa. You can also opt to share your photos between your PlayStation Network friends as well as print photos from Photo Gallery.
* Video Editor & Uploader: Video Editor and Uploader is a new function found on the XrossMediaBar (XMB), which enables you to edit, save and upload video files stored on the PS3 system to sites such as Facebook or YouTube.
* PlayStation Store Five Star Rating Support: Users can now rate PlayStation Store content they have purchased with one to five star ratings.
* Power Save Settings: The default setting for PS3 System Auto-Off will be set at 2 hours, providing you with additional power save options and further improving power save features on the PS3 system.

As well as the latest features introduced in PS3 system software update (v3.40), a separate, new PSN application will be made available on Facebook. This builds on the previous connection with Trophies and the ability to share purchases from the PlayStation Store. Now you can further integrate your PSN and Facebook accounts with this new application, which allows you to display your PSN profile on Facebook, send a PSN friend request to friends on Facebook and add the PSN application tab to your Facebook Profile.

Find out what features are included in PS3 system software update 3.40.

An update to the PS3 system software was released on 29 June 2010. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 3.40 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 3.40, you will need a minimum 165MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Is een Duitse of UK PSN voucher te gebruiken op een NL account? Die zijn @ eBay namelijk een paar euro goedkoper dan de NL kaarten.

Idd... Wipeout en LBP zijn heel mooi meegenomen maar die heb ik beide al. Was het nu Fat Princess (oid) en Motorstorm2/inFamous geweest had ik het denk ik wel gedaan
