Gamescom, the video game trade show in Cologne, Germany, is done and dusted for another year. Treyarch were among the developers in attendance, and we were lucky enough to find out some juicy bits of information from them on Call of Duty: Black Ops. We posted at the end of each day, letting you know what we found out, and you can check out those posts here and here. We didn’t write a post for yesterday, as we didn’t learn anything particularly new, despite the fact that there was a live interview with Josh Olin, Treyarch community manager, and Hank Keirsey, their military adviser, streamed over Facebook.
Day One Highlights
* 3D, Kinect and PS Move will not be supported by Black Ops. These new technologies came along after the game had begun production.
* They used the same motion capture technology used in big-budget blockbuster Avatar in order to capture realistic body and facial movements concurrently.

* The game hasn’t been finished yet, but they’ve promised to make the campaign long enough to give the story justice.
* Multiplayer: Treyarch have worked on an anti-hacker solution to avoid the problems that plagued Modern Warfare 2.
* Multiplayer: Local search for console players was confirmed, which helps players to find the best possible connection for a game by looking for local players.
* Multiplayer: There’s a vehicle component to multiplayer, but it’s not something we’ll be expecting.
* Zombies: When asked about Nazi Zombies, Olin said: “Nazi Zombies was two years ago, come on! Whatever we do, we’re going to have to raise the bar.”
Day Two Highlights
* Josh Olin said that game’s story is completely original, and they’ve taken no cues from Modern Warfare 2.
* Two new weapons were spotted in a gameplay demo – the Makarov pistol and the KS-23 shotgun.

* Multiplayer: Mod tools were confirmed for PC players, to be released at a later date after launch. Access to the dev console was also confirmed.
* Multiplayer: Olin reckons that the community will be blown away by the multiplayer reveal, and promises lots of surprises in store.
Day Three Highlights
There wasn’t much news on the third day of Gamescom, although the Facebook interview in the evening shed light on a few questions.
* Josh Olin kept silent on multiplayer details, saying that we’d have to wait until the 1st September to find out. However, he did promise that lots of work was going into balancing the killstreaks.
* The co-op mode will be revealed at a later date – Treyarch are refusing to budge on this!
* Multiplayer: The ‘dive-to-prone’ gameplay mechanic has a recovery time, like switching weapons. Also, you can’t shoot while diving.
* Multiplayer: Character customization will feature!
Leaked footage of ‘WMD’
After a very poor quality leak yesterday, a reasonably high-quality recording of this mission emerged on the internet today. We’re not going to link to it, however, for two reason: firstly, Activision wouldn’t be happy with us, but secondly, we’re firmly against spoiling the game’s story for anyone. We’re going to have a strict policy on this site against leaked campaign footage, as we believe that every player should be able to experience the story for themselves.
