Are you sure that blindfires always go center screen? It seems like its GoW2 style hipfire for me. I was trying to figure this out day 1 of the BSEE beta. I was shooting a wall with a hipfire while strafing in order to figure out where to aim and it came out a bit to the left of center like in GoW2.
Anyway, my tips for GoW in general that I picked up:
Wallbounce: *This helps but it is not 100% needed. My friends that I play with can't wallbounce well at all and they still pull great scores.
Not sure if you know how to do this, but it is very helpful
If you are unfamiliar with this, watch this video, it will help.

there are also more videos by this guy that offer GoW tips. They are mostly on GoW2, but most of them can be applied for GoW3.
Strafe: This is the tactic I would suggest. Everyone knows what strafing is in a shooter. Use this to make your opponent miss his shot while you knick him with a few of yours. What usually ends up happening is they will lose confidence in their ability to win due to their low health and their missed shots. When this happens, they tend to roll at which point you are free to aim in and go for the down.
Hipfire: I really only use this at <10 foot range when I am strafing. Everything else is usually popshotted. When strafing and hipfiring, I have found that the spread tends to end up hitting just to the right of your characters head. When standing still, the spread shoots more toward the center screen. (People will prob disagree with me on these 2 spreads, but I encourage you to hipfire a wall in game while strafing and while standing still... see where to aim for yourself)
Anyway, I end up lining my target up just to the right of my characters head when I am strafing or going for a 1-shot.
Popshotting: If you have played any CoD games, its kind of like the quickscope. Quickly aim in with the shotgun, fire right when it zooms in, and zoom out again. There used to be a bug with this where it was broken, but I just like using this because it offers accuracy and mobility between shots.
Another big tip that is often overlooked is: Always keep moving. If you really want to get a shotgun kill, you need to constantly be moving aggressively toward the target while giving them as small of an opportunity to put a shot on you as possible. USE COVER. This is where wallbouncing comes in handy. The ability to quickly transition from in and out of cover is very key to close the gap without taking damage. If you find yourself jogging out in the open, you will be downed by AR fire the end. Game over. In the open you should always be sprinting. NEVER SPRINT OR ROLL DIRECTLY AT AN OPPONENT. Stopping power will destroy you and you will become very frustrated with the game.
Play for power weapon: *this is often very overlooked by newer players* These are the hot spots on the map and this is where most of the battles will be going down. Usually the winner of these engagements will get the power weapon and will get a slight advantage for then next few minutes. It would be helpful to you and your team to support the push for these key spots.
Lastly, Identify:
Where is the enemy team? Do they see me?
If you dont see the enemy team, they are likely flanking you, or camping back behind cover. Check your back. You may be able to catch a DBSer about 20 feet of charging straight at you. Easy down.
If they dont see you and you know it, take the opportunity to flank them. Don't go charging straight in. Rather, pull what the pros call a "Cross" sit at medium range and lancer them down from the Back/Side while your team hits them from the front.
What weapon does he have? How can I play this?
Lots of people moan about the DBS on the forums. Its because they dont understand that you absolutely cannot engage them at close range and expect to win. If he has the DBS, back off to around 10 feet and whittle him down. If he wastes his shot, then you can push him until he reloads.. rinse and repeat. With the retro, back off even more and lancer/hammerburst him down. If you are already committed to a close range engagement against the retro, move around like a madman until you are close enough to 1-shot him.
Lancer/HB: Either out AR them or close the gap using cover to force them to pull out their shotgun.
If you think someone is camping a corner, throw a smoke. It stuns now which will likely make them pull back from their hidey hole.
Anyway, the best advice I could give you is learn to adapt to different situations. The ability to identify what to do in a situation and execute it is what IMO separates a great player from an average one.
