The Update
What is it?
The Spring Xbox 360 Update is a downloadable update for the Xbox 360 video game system. After the initial release of the Xbox 360, there were several ideas that arose in the gaming community on how the system could be improved. Along with ideas being in consideration for Microsoft, there are also new accessories coming out for the system, such as the Xbox Live Vision Camera that the system must be prepared for. Several updates for the Xbox 360 system are to come, as the gaming community continues to think up of new ways to improve the true next-gen system. As long as the community thinks, Microsoft will deliver.
When is it?
Many have skepticized when exactly the update will take place, but the update has been said by Microsoft employees in an interview, Jerry Johnson and Aaron Greenberg, to come out sometime this week (May 29- June 2). With one day down, that only leaves Tues, Wed, Thurs, or Fri for the update to be released. Details of the interview can be found on Gamespot at-

Where can I get it?
The update will be available mainly by an automatic download from the dashboard on Xbox 360 Consoles that are connected to Xbox Live. Any users wanting the update that don't currently have Xbox Live can check on
www.xbox.com for a download that they can burn to a disk and insurt into their Xbox 360 to acquire the update.
What new features does it give me?
So far, the main features of the update are as follows-
- Background Downloading - With the Marketplace being a dominent feature of the 360, downloading demos, trailers, etc. can be quite a hassle while having to be "bound" to the downloading screen until the dowload is complete. Background Downloading alows you to be able to download up to 6 downloads in a row while allowing you to do any of the other features of the console. The only limitation is that you must pause the download while playing an online session to create more lag-free online games. Also if you turn off your 360 while in the middle of a download, it continues the download the next time the console is turned on.
- Boot to Dashboard - As named, there will be a new option you can turn on to let you boot to dashboard instead of starting up whatever game is in the drive.
- More Categories - There are more categories added to the dashboard, mainly in the Marketplace separating Demos, Movie Trailers, Game Videos, Short Films, Music Videos, etc.
- Video Features - You can now rewind and fast-forward your videos, as when before, you could only stop and pause. Also, you can "bookmark" a part of a movie if you want to go play a game. When you get back from the game, the movie will pick right back up where you left off.
- Idle Status - Many people leave their 360s on when they walk off to do a chore or to wait on a download. Now, your status will automatically set to "Idle" when you have not interacted with the 360 in a good bit of time.
