"MS will miss Xbox 360 target
Harry Neary (Akeldama) // Monday, January 9th, 2006
According to today's Financial Times, analysts estimate that shipments were at the 1.3 million mark by the end of 2005 and that there will be shortages during this month. The company has set a longer term goal outlined at CES of selling 4 - 5.5 million by the end of the current fiscal year, which ends in June 2006.
"Nothing's perfect - you've got a complex piece of hardware that includes 1,700 different parts," said Microsoft's Peter Moore. "Every now and again the line will slow down because something's happened and there'll be a component that didn't make it that morning. That's just the way of the beast, particularly when you are ramping up factories from ground zero all the way up to full capacity."
Microsoft has added a third production partner to help hit the new goals. "Celestica coming online makes us feel real good about our ability to do 4.5m to 5.5m, and June is important because it's our fiscal year," continued Moore.
