Ninety-Nine Nights II Details
Changes are coming to the Ninety-Nine Nights universe.
The sequel to the Xbox 360 exclusive hack-and-slash title, Ninety-Nine Nights, is on its way to the States -- courtesy of Konami. But details are still slim on exactly what to expect out of what is succinctly referred to as N3-2. To get more info, we went to Konami's Japan producer for the project, Tak Fujii.
IGN: How connected is the story of N3-1 to N3-2? Will we see the previous cast of characters return as extra missions or as DLC?
Tak Fujii: The only element that is left from its predecessor is the element about the "Orb of Darkness," and for the other parts, stories are built originally for Ninety-Nine Nights II. We did this so it would be easier for a newcomer who didn't play the last title to get into this game. We cannot convert any data from the previous title, but please enjoy the brand new world of Ninety-Nine Nights.
IGN: Will there be more specific items and accessories for characters to earn? Or can we expect the same random drop algorithm with N3?
Tak Fujii: We implemented the system, where the characters will be able to obtain (learn) the skill which certain enemies use. We can set 4 skills at once, so we can combine the skills, and advance through the game with your own strategy. There are approximately 100 skills included in the game, so please enjoy the pleasure of defeating the enemies with your combination of skills! Other than that, we have the technique called "Orb Spark" and "Orb Attack," which is stronger than the normal skills!

IGN: What are the biggest gameplay changes being made for the sequel? Will veterans be able to pick up the controller and know the drill right off of the bat?
Tak Fujii: We have included elements that will enhance the pleasure of gameplay.
For example, we've designed enemies that players will want to defeat as soon as they encounter them. But this game isn't just about defeating the enemies that will come out in the fields!
IGN: With so much action on screen, some hack-and-slash games struggle to keep a high level of visual quality throughout. How much work has gone into improving upon what was there in the N3 engine?
Tak Fujii: We built N3-2 from scratch. The part that suffered during development was "how could we decrease the process speed per each enemy?" We came up with the solution to control the enemy motions by units, not each enemy.
IGN: About how large is the campaign? Will it last roughly the same length as the last N3 game?
Tak Fujii: As there are many characters in the game, we cannot completely describe the length of the campaign, but for example, it would take approximately 6 hours to go through Galen's story. If we include other characters, it would add up to approximately 15 to 20 hours.
As there are collective elements and online elements in this game, we cannot say the complete length, but we are sure that it's longer than its predecessor.
Blood storm incoming.
IGN: Can Ninety-Nine Nights II players expect to have the option of going online to unlock special loot only available through the co-op or competitive modes?
Tak Fujii:The weapons and skills acquired in the online mode can be used in the offline mode, such as in the campaigns.
So, there are weapons/skills/achievements that can only be acquired from online, but there won't be anything that can only be used in the online mode.
IGN: Will skills and items earned in single player carry over into multiplayer and vice versa?
Tak Fujii: Yes, this is possible.
IGN: Will there be a Japanese voice option in addition to the English voice talent?
Taku Jujii: The Japanese voice acting is also included in the game.
IGN: What's the current strategy for downloadable content?
Tak Fujii: We are planning to create a new character, original maps, and weapons.
Regarding the character, players who played the game will be able to imagine who it would be!
