S7.5 e13 Don as the Hobo
"
He starts out the episode coming into the motel, hungry. He asks "Do you know where I can get a meal?"
The lady of the "house" treats him well, and he responds in kind, by doing work to help her out, just like the hobo that came to the Whitman house. And just like the hobo, Don gets completely screwed over by the man of the house.
I'd imagine had Don looked at the gate post outside the motel, he'd have found the hook symbol, telling him that a crooked man lived there."

Powerful episode and I found myself tearing up throughout it. I love how in the second half of the season, we see Don gradually give up or have material things taken away from him. From seeing Don and Roger in a tuxedo, throwing money around like it's nothing to Don giving up his car with nothing but the clothes on his back and a Sears bag (what's in the bag!?). Masterful.
Just rewatching it (for the third time, thanks AMC) and saw the exchange between Don and Sally where he chastised her about not knowing money. Don's telling Sally how important money is but at this point he has given up millions by being a no-show at McCann, giving Megan a million, and now giving away a Cadillac to a kid. Not sure what to make of his message to Sally.
Also, Don smiling at the end was awesome. When was the last time we saw that? He hallucinated Bert Cooper singing that "the best things in life are free" and also hallucinated Bert in the car. Then he gave it away, and felt happy.
Still rewatching it. The woman he saw was very red. Red bathing suit, red toe nails, and red heels. As far as I know, the only other red he sees is on the Coca-Cola (Coh-cuh-coll-luh) vending machine. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but seems like he's still being tempted by sex and materialism.
Lastly, was there ever an episode we don't see Peggy or Roger? Must be building up to something big.
I'm not even going to get into Betty. That's just too much."
