I have chosen a short story because you needed to read a total of 500 pages. So far I’ve read 2 other books, one with 208 pages and one with 385 pages witch makes a total of 593. But we needed to read at least 3 books, so I’ve chosen a short story.
Summary
The story is about a law, a ‘divorce law’. It starts of with a president who meets a really beautiful young woman, and the president falls in love right away. The girl says she loves the president also but she is married. The president wants her to divorce right away, but there is a divorce law that says that you have to pay 100 American dollars and have to wait 30 days. But the president doesn’t want to wait that long. He tries to change the law, but the people find out and hang him. Then there comes a new president, he is faced with the same dilemma. But now, he asks his ministers what his options are, and he changes it. And the people also wanted the law to be changed, so everybody is happy.
Ten questions
1. In the story there are 2 girls who have a shop, and are scared that there shop will be closed because, because the law they don’t make as much money as the used to.
These 2 girls don’t play an important part in the story, so I don’t really understand why the author used this title..
2. It’s a ‘Short Short Story’ it has a total of 8 pages. It’s a historical/social/political story. Because it’s about how the law used to be in the past (according to the first 2 sentences of the story it even actually happened in the past.) And it about a sort of social misunderstanding.
3. a.The characters have no names. There is just the first and the second president. The first president falls in love with a woman and tries to change the law, but he doesn’t ask the people so he gets hanged. The second president also falls in love with a women, but he asks his ministers what his options are, and he also asks the people of his country.
b.There is no relation between the main characters, the only resemblence is that they are both president.
c. Flat characters. You learn nothing about them and they don’t evolve.
d. No, there is no character develpment.
